سيجتمع المجلس التنفيذي التابع لمجلس الكنائس العالمي في العاصمة الأردنية "عمّان" خلال الفترة من 17 إلى 23 تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر 2017م من أجل المصادقة على خطط وميزانية 2018م وكذلك التحضير لتجديد الخطة الاستراتيجية لمجلس الكنائس العالمي وكذلك من أجل التفكير في سبل مواصلة التزام مجلس الكنائس العالمي تمهيدا لإقرار العدل والسلام في فلسطين وإسرائيل عن طريق الاستفادة من الوضع الخاص في الأردن وفي منطقة الشرق الأوسط ومناقشة التحديات التي تواجهها الكنائس وكيفية تعامل مجلس الكنائس العالمي مع هذه التحديات. وسيستقبل المجموعة المشاركة في هذا الاجتماع المرتقب في "عمّان" غبطة "ثيوفيلوس" الثالث بطريرك المدينة المقدسة أورشليم وسائر فلسطين والأردن.

Der Exekutivausschuss des ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) trifft sich vom 17. bis 23. November in Amman, Jordanien, um die Programmpläne und den Haushalt für 2018 zu genehmigen, Leitlinien für die Erneuerung des ÖRK-Strategieplans für den Zeitraum aufzustellen und das weitere Vorgehen des ÖRK in Palästina und Israel auf der Suche nach Gerechtigkeit und Frieden zu beraten, indem mehr über die besondere Situation in Jordanien und im Nahen Osten in Erfahrung gebracht wird und im Anschluss daran die Herausforderungen für die Kirchen und die Antwort des ÖRK erörtert werden. Theophilus III, der Patriarch der Heiligen Stadt Jerusalem und ganz Palästinas und der Gebiete jenseits des Jordans, wird die Gruppe willkommen heißen.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will meet in Amman, Jordan from 17-23 November to approve the 2018 plans and budget, prepare for renewal of the WCC strategic plan, to discern the way forward for the WCC’s involvement in Palestine and Israel for justice and peace by learning more about the particular situation in Jordan and the Middle East, then discussing the challenges of the churches and the WCC response. The Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem, All Palestine and Jordan, Theophilos III, will welcome the group.

El Comité Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) se reunirá en Ammán (Jordania) del 17 al 23 de noviembre para aprobar los planes y el presupuesto 2018, para prepararse para la renovación del plan estratégico del CMI y para discernir los próximos pasos para la labor del CMI en Palestina e Israel en pro de la justicia y la paz, recibiendo más información sobre la situación particular de Jordania y Oriente Medio, y después discutiendo sobre los desafíos de las iglesias y la respuesta del CMI. El patriarca de la Ciudad Santa de Jerusalén, de toda la Palestina y de Jordania, Teófilo III, dará la bienvenida al grupo.

Le Comité exécutif du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) se réunira à Amman, en Jordanie, du 17 au 23 novembre pour approuver la planification et le budget pour 2018, préparer le renouvellement du plan stratégique du COE et déterminer la voie à suivre en termes d'implication du COE pour la justice et la paix en Palestine et Israël. Il s'informera pour cela de la situation particulière en Jordanie et au Moyen-Orient, puis abordera la question des défis des Églises et de l'action du COE. Le patriarche de la ville sainte de Jérusalem, de toute la Palestine et de Jordanie, Theophilos III, accueillera le groupe.

Das Buch „Nous avons un désir. There is Something We Long For“, das Beiträge afrikanischer Theologinnen enthält, erfuhr durch die Verleihung des Marga Bührig Preises 2017 auf einem Wochenendsymposium in Basel in der Schweiz Lob und Anerkennung.

The book, “There is Something We Long For” compiled by African female theologians received accolades when its authors were presented with the Marga Bührig Award 2017 at a weekend symposium in Basel, Switzerland. The prize was celebrated on 4 November at the Missionshaus in Basel with some of the authors and editors of the group known as Tsena Malalaka who wrote the book.

Rev. Rahab Wanjiru Kariuki, an Anglican priest living with HIV in Kenya, strongly believes there’s a reason for an uptick in HIV infections among young people: “It is because we have kept silent.” Kariuki refuses to be silent and refuses to remain passive. These are mantras not only for the way she lives but for the ways in which she ministers and cares for others.

A lay Anglican woman in Uganda is helping to build an HIV competent community and church, in a country where the epidemic is still a big challenge. Josephine Kasaato is president of the Mothers’ Union in the Namirembe Diocese in the capital of Uganda, Kampala. She is using her position to create awareness and educate the community about HIV and AIDS.

Während eines Solidaritätsbesuches in Kenia vom 10. bis 12. Oktober trafen sich Leitende des Zentralausschusses des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) mit kirchlichen Vertreterinnen und Vertretern aus Kenia und gaben ihre Unterstützung für die Kirchen in Kenia zum Ausdruck, die nach Frieden und Gerechtigkeit streben. Weiter vertieften sie ihre Vision für anstehende Anlässe des ÖRK, beispielsweise für die im März 2018 geplante Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation.

During a solidarity visit in Kenya on 10-12 October, leaders from the World Council of Churches (WCC) Central Committee met with Kenyan church representatives, expressed their support for Kenyan churches working toward peace and justice, and deepened their vision for future WCC events, including the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism set for March 2018.

Durante una visita de solidaridad en Kenia que tuvo lugar del 10 al 12 de octubre, los líderes del Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) se reunieron con los representantes de las iglesias de Kenia, expresaron su apoyo a las iglesias de Kenia que trabajan por la paz y la justicia, y profundizaron en su visión para los próximos eventos del CMI, como la Conferencia sobre Misión Mundial y Evangelización prevista para el mes de marzo de 2018.

Au cours d’une visite de solidarité effectuée au Kenya du 10 au 12 octobre, les responsables du Comité central du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) ont rencontré des représentants des Églises kenyanes, et ont exprimé leur soutien à celles qui œuvraient pour la paix et la justice. Ils ont également étayé leur vision des événements du COE à venir, notamment concernant la Conférence mondiale sur la mission et l’évangélisation, prévue en mars 2018.

Gathered in Kigali, Rwanda on 25-29 September, religious leaders from a variety of faith communities in French-speaking Africa have explored the issue of ”faith-healing only” practices, where some faith communities encourage people living with HIV to stop taking their anti-retroviral medication, claiming they can be healed by faith alone – a rationale devastating for work to overcome HIV and AIDS.

“I believe we need an advocacy strategy to listen, share experiences, and address the issues we face in working for treatment adherence,” said Rev. Dr Nyambura Njoroge, World Council of Churches Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiatives and Advocacy (WCC-EHAIA) coordinator as she addressed a consultation on HIV Treatment Adherence and Faith Healing in Africa on 5 September.

Taking place on 4-8 September in Kampala, Uganda, a WCC and UNAIDS regional consultation on HIV Treatment Adherence and Faith Healing in Africa has gathered to address issues of “faith-healing only” practices in the context of HIV and AIDS. At the core is the question of how religious leaders can partner with governmental organizations nationally and internationally, as well as with other parts of civil society to develop strategies to advocate for HIV treatment adherence, and to build bridges to those among faith-healing only practitioners who are open to dialogue.

In Cameroon, adolescents and young people ages 15-24 partly account for high new HIV infections, which largely occur through unprotected sexual intercourse. This current HIV prevalence among youth may compromise the present and future development of this country.

The Methodist Church of Nigeria (Diocese of Umuahia) Women’s Fellowship has invited Jessie Fubara-Manuel, an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria who also collaborates with the World Council of Churches Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiatives and Advocacy (WCC-EHAIA), to deliver the keynote address at the opening of its 42nd conference.
