Une conférence dédiée à l’eau au service des droits humains et du développement durable se tiendra les 3 et 4 novembre au Palais des Nations à Genève, en Suisse, et en ligne.

A conference focusing on water for human rights and sustainable development will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and online on 3-4 November.

At a well-attended showcase in Stockholm, Sweden, yesterday afternoon, the Ecumenical Water Network took a step further towards achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 by bringing together faith actors with key people from the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector.

Three weeks have now passed since this year’s edition of the World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden was wrapped up and delegates from all over the world headed home, inspired to “float” the issues, as the WCC Ecumenical Water Network chairperson, Bishop Arnold Temple from Sierra Leone, put it.

“Water is a gift of God, a gift of creation, and it is necessary for survival,” said World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, introducing through a video message a World Water Week public showcase on “Water and Faith: Acting in Partnership to achieve SDG 6” in Stockholm, Sweden.

A “Water and Faith” day will be held on 30 August in Stockholm, Sweden, offering many opportunities to explore how faith-based groups can act in partnership with the public and private sectors to achieve water justice for all people.

Réunis le 30 août à Stockholm, en Suède, pour la Semaine mondiale de l’eau, des représentantes et représentants de plusieurs communautés et organisations religieuses travaillant dans le domaine de l’eau ont organisé une session pour étudier comment les communautés de foi pouvaient contribuer au sixième objectif de développement durable (ODD): garantir l’accès de tous à l’eau et à l’assainissement et assurer une gestion durable des ressources en eau.

Organized as part of World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, the WCC invites faith-based organizations, congregations as individuals to a 30 August public event entitled “Water and Faith: Building partnerships to achieve the SDGs”. The event is an open session, organized by the WCC in collaboration with Church of Sweden, Global Water Partnership, Stockholm International Water Institute, and Swedish Institute Alexandria.

How can religion and faith communities contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? Setting out to address this very question, a panel of faith representatives gathered at World Water Week in Stockholm on 29 August, introduced by keynote speaker Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Vatican. The panel was also welcomed by Rt. Rev. Thomas Söderberg, Church of Sweden.

C’est avec cette question en tête qu’un comité d’experts constitué de représentants et représentantes de différentes religions s’est réuni à l’occasion de la Semaine mondiale de l’eau à Stockholm le 29 août, avec une intervention notable du cardinal Peter Turkson, président du Conseil pontifical «justice et paix» au Vatican. Le comité d’experts a par ailleurs été accueilli par l’évêque Thomas Söderberg, de l’Église de Suède.

Amidst the reality of tensions often fueled by religions, a group of Christian, Muslim and Jewish youth has formed a multi-faith community. As part of an interfaith summer course sponsored by the WCC, this community wants to work for the protection of creation – a concern they say is common to all faith traditions.

Sur fond de tensions internationales souvent alimentées par les religions, un groupe composé de jeunes chrétiens, musulmans et juifs a constitué une communauté multireligieuse. Dans le cadre d'un cours d'été interreligieux organisé sous l'égide du COE, cette communauté veut œuvrer à la protection de la création, une préoccupation qui, selon eux, est partagée par toutes les traditions religieuses.
