Colombian human rights advocates engage in strategic talks in the US

In a recent visit to the United States, a group of four laureates of the National Human Rights Award in Colombia” engaged in meetings in Washington and New York City with government officials, diplomats, and United Nations (UN) representatives. They spoke of the deterioration of the peace process in the country and the importance of international solidarity.

Rev. Frank Chikane: “No es posible crear unidad en detrimento de la justicia”

Mientras el Rev. Frank Chikane dirigió el Consejo Sudafricano de Iglesias (SACC, por sus siglas en inglés) en su denuncia de las injusticias del sistema del apartheid, la organización no cejó en sus esfuerzos, ni siquiera después del atentado que redujo su sede a escombros en los años ochenta. Moderador de la Comisión de las Iglesias para Asuntos Internacionales (CIAI) del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) desde 2016, el Rev. Chikane ha denunciado injusticias en múltiples lugares del mundo. El departamento de comunicación del CMI le pidió que volviera la vista atrás sobre su mandato en la CIAI y sobre el constante llamado de las iglesias a poner fin a las injusticias que afectan hoy al mundo.

Rev. Frank Chikane: “You can’t do unity at the expense of justice”

When Rev. Frank Chikane was leading the South African Council of Churches in calling out injustices of the apartheid system, their work did not stop even after the council’s office building was bombed to the ground in 1980s. Moderating the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the World Council of Churches (WCC) since 2016, Rev. Chikane has been engaged in addressing injustices in many parts of the world. WCC Communication asked Rev. Chikane to look back at his term at the commission and the ongoing calling of churches to address injustices in the world today.

The thematic focus of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace (PJP) in 2019 is Racism.The WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA), organises a series of eight WCC CCIA regional expert Webinars on the issue of racism and racial justice from August to December 2019. The aim of the webinars is to explore how racism manifests itself in the respective regions, learn about the work that churches and ecumenical partners are doing in this respect, identify synergies and avenues for possible collaboration.

Comunicadores cristianos brillan en el Foro Mundial de Medios de Comunicación

La Asociación Mundial de Comunicación Cristiana (WACC por su sigla en inglés) tuvo un papel destacado en el Foro Mundial de Medios de Comunicación de Deutsche Welle (DW) celebrado en Bonn, Alemania, los días 27 y 28 de mayo.
En la conferencia participaron más de 2.000 profesionales de medios de comunicación, formuladores de políticas, agentes de políticas y la sociedad civil, la cultura y la educación, el mundo empresarial y la ciencia, representantes de 140 países.

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) was featured in the DW Global Media Forum held 27-28 May in Bonn, Germany. More than 2,000 media professionals, policymakers, and movers from politics and civil society, culture and education, business and science – representing 140 countries – attended the conference.

Learning exchange focuses on human rights among indigenous people

The International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation and World Council of Churches held a learning exchange activity in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland on 28 November. The activity was attended by indigenous peoples’ organizations and support networks from the Philippines, Zambia, Peru, and Colombia.
