Christian Conference of Asia gravely concerned for farmers in Philippines

The Christian Conference of Asia has condemned police brutality against farmers in Mindanao, Philippines. The CCA spoke out against “the violent response and shootings by the police on farmers in the Philippines” and expressed solidarity with the leadership of the United Methodist Church in its continuing protection of some 6,000 farmers and tribal leaders who are threatened by violence from the Philippine National Police.

Lahore bombing shows vulnerability of Pakistanis

A bomb attack by terrorists using the name of religion in Lahore on Easter Sunday marked the third time Christians have been targeted in Pakistan in three years, illustrating the vulnerability of people in the country.

Organisiert von seiner Heimatkirche, der Syrischen Mar-Thoma-Kirche in Indien, wurde am 31. August der 100. Geburtstag des verstorbenen ökumenischen Leiters und indischen Theologen Dr. M. M. Thomas (1916 - 1996) in Form eines Seminars in seinem Heimatstaat Kerala, Indien, begangen. Die Teilnehmenden erinnerten sich an Thomas' bedeutenden Beitrag zur ökumenischen Bewegung.

El centenario del nacimiento del dirigente ecuménico y teólogo indio Dr. M. M. Thomas (1916-1996) se celebró el 31 de agosto con un seminario en su estado natal de Kerala que fue organizado por su iglesia, la Iglesia Siria Mar Thoma de la India. Los participantes rindieron tributo a la importante contribución de Thomas al movimiento ecuménico.

Thomas (1916-1996), lors d’un séminaire organisé dans son État de naissance, le Kerala, le 31 août. Les participantes et participants ont rendu hommage à la remarquable contribution de M.M. Thomas au mouvement œcuménique.

Bishop George Ninan of India dies at the age of 80

Dr A. George Ninan, an ecumenical leader of international standing and a long-time pastor and diocesan bishop in the Church of North India, passed away in New York City on 21 June at the age of 80. Called by some “the radical voice of the voiceless”, throughout his ministry he organized for the poor, oppressed and outcast in India and, in retirement, continued as a church and community volunteer in the USA.
