Hope in a Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace formed the integral thread for proceedings at the meeting of the Central Committee of the WCC in Trondheim, Norway this week. The 2016 meeting took place 22-28 June, the second gathering since the Central Committee was elected at the WCC 10th Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea in 2013.

While news headlines continue to document tragedies on land and sea as desperate people flee violence and abject poverty in their homelands, representatives of governments, UN agencies and civil society organizations, including churches and faith-based organizations, met 18-19 January at a high-level conference on the refugee and migrant crisis in Europe, hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The “pilgrimage is both a way to continue working for the one ecumenical movement and a way to move forward in our times that offer new dimensions, opportunities and practices,” said the WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit.

Die 10. ÖRK-Vollversammlung ist am 8. November mit dem Beschluss zu Ende gegangen, die Kirchen zu ermutigen, ihr Engagement für Gerechtigkeit und Frieden zu erneuern. In verschiedenen Treffen und Dialogen unter den Mitgliedern der Kirchengemeinschaft hat die Vollversammlung konkrete Beschlüsse gefasst und Empfehlungen ausgesprochen, die die Prioritäten und die Ausrichtung der zukünftigen Arbeit des ÖRK bestimmen.

The WCC 10th Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea, concluded on 8 November, acting to inspire churches to renew their commitments to justice and peace. Through varied encounters and dialogue within the fellowship of churches, the Assembly has made concrete decisions and recommendations setting priorities for the future work of the WCC.
