As a result of a consultation on 9-10 November in Washington, D.C., Pan African Women of Faith have released a Call to Action toward a vision of sustainable communities and an end to hunger and poverty.

As churches worldwide focus on the “Action Week for Food” in October, increasing numbers of people going hungry due to violent conflicts, failed harvests and rising food costs are compelling faith-based organizations to offer urgent intervention.

A publication entitled “When Food Becomes Immaterial: Confronting the Digital Age” is now available to help people explore the impact of technologies on what and how we eat, as well as on how food is produced.

The World Council of Churches invites a Churches’ Week of Action on Food, from 15-22 October 2018. An annual week-long global campaign initiated by the WCC-EAA, the Churches’ Week of Action on Food invites the global ecumenical movement and organisations, community-based organisations and faith-based organisations to act collectively for food-justice.

„Die Einladung zum Pilgerweg der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens hat eine neue Chance eröffnet, unser Verständnis von Diakonie neu auszurichten und uns bei unserer diakonischen Arbeit ökumenisch zusammenzuschließen“, hat Pastor Dr. Kjell Nordstokke im Rahmen der Tagung des Zentralausschusses des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) am 16. Juni festgestellt.

“The invitation to a Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace has presented a new opportunity for reorienting our understanding of diakonia, and to join together ecumenically in our diaconal work,” said Rev. Dr Kjell Nordstokke, speaking to the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee on 16 June.

“La invitación a una peregrinación de justicia y paz ha brindado una nueva oportunidad para reorientar nuestra comprensión de la diaconía y para unirnos ecuménicamente en nuestro trabajo diaconal”, dijo el Rev. Dr. Kjell Nordstokke al dirigirse al Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) el 16 de junio.

The Global Day of Prayer to End Famine has found relevance in Africa, where communities bear the brunt of severe food shortages associated with the challenge. On 10 June, the WCC, All Africa Conference of Churches and World Evangelical Alliance called on churches to pray for millions of people at risk and those who face severe hunger.

Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK), die Weltweite Evangelische Allianz und die Gesamtafrikanische Kirchenkonferenz sowie kirchliche humanitäre Organisationen und eine Koalition kirchlicher Netzwerke und Organisationen werben dafür, in den Gemeinden weltweit den 10. El Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), la Alianza Evangélica Mundial y la Conferencia de Iglesias de Toda el África, junto con otras organizaciones humanitarias religiosas relacionadas y una coalición de redes y organizaciones relacionadas con las iglesias, están promoviendo el 10 de junio como segundo Día internacional de oración para acabar con el hambre, observado una vez al año por las congregaciones de todo el mundo.

Le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), l'Alliance évangélique mondiale et la Conférence des Églises de toute l'Afrique, aux côtés d'organisations humanitaires confessionnelles et d'une coalition de partenaires, d'organisations et de réseaux d'Églises, assurent la promotion de la deuxième Journée mondiale de prière pour mettre fin à la famine.
