The World Council of Churches (WCC), in partnership with CAPNI and UFUQ, is reaffirming its ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable peace through justice and inclusive citizenship in Iraq. This reaffirmation follows successful completion of a project to revise national educational curricula, promoting inclusive education and pedagogy.

صدرت مبادرة "المشاورة الدينية بشأن التماسك الاجتماعي في العراق التي عقدت في بيروت خلال الفترة من 13-15 ديسمبر،2021 بيانا ختاميا، الذي يُعد ثمرة لمشاركة واسعة النطاق بين الأديان شملت الزعماء الدينيين والعرقيين من كافة المكونات العراقية التي تعمل معا من أجل السلام في العراق والشرق الأوسط.

Una “consulta religiosa sobre la cohesión social en Iraq”, que tuvo lugar del 13 al 15 de diciembre en Beirut, emitió un comunicado final, fruto de una amplia participación interreligiosa que contó, entre otros, con dirigentes religiosos y étnicos de todos los sectores iraquíes, quienes trabajaron juntos en favor de la paz en Iraq y en Oriente Medio.

Vom 13. bis 15. Dezember fand in Beirut eine „Religiöse Konsultation für den sozialen Zusammenhalt im Irak“ statt. Das veröffentlichte Abschlusskommuniqué ist das Ergebnis einer breiten interreligiösen Teilnahme, dabei die Leitenden von allen religiösen und ethnischen Gemeinschaften im Irak, die gemeinsam nach Frieden im Irak und im Nahen Osten streben.

La «Consultation religieuse sur la cohésion sociale en Iraq» s’est tenue du 13 au 15 à Beyrouth et a publié un communiqué final, fruit d’une vaste participation interreligieuse de nombreux responsables religieux et ethniques issus de l’ensemble du paysage iraquien, travaillant ensemble au service de la paix en Iraq et au Moyen-Orient.

رحب الأمين العام لمجلس كنائس الشرق الأوسط الدكتور ميشيل عبس بالأمين العام لمجلس الكنائس العالمي بالإنابة القس البروفيسور الدكتور إيوان سوكا في 14 كانون الأول/ديسمبر بمقر الأمانة العامة لمجلس كنائس الشرق الأوسط في بيروت. كما كان في استقبال سوكا رئيس الاتحاد الإنجيلي الوطني في لبنان ورئيس مجلس الأسرة الإنجيلية، سعادة القس الدكتور حبيب بدر، وكذلك فريق الأمانة العامة في بيروت.

Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca, secretario general en funciones del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), el 14 de diciembre a la Secretaría General del Consejo de Iglesias del Oriente Medio con sede en Beirut. S.E. el Rev. Dr. Habib Badr, presidente de la Unión Nacional Evangélica del Líbano y presidente del Consejo para la Familia Evangélica, así como el equipo de dicha secretaria también lo recibieron.

Der Generalsekretär des Rates der Kirchen im Nahen Osten Dr. Michel Abs empfing den geschäftsführenden Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rats der Kirchen (ÖRK) P. Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca am 14. Dezember im Generalsekretariat des Rates der Kirchen im Nahen Osten in Beirut. Sauca wurde außerdem von H.E. P. Dr. Habib Badr, Präsident der “National Evangelical Union in Lebanon” und Präsident des “Council for the Evangelical Family”, sowie den MitarbeiterInnen des Generalsekretariats in Beirut willkommen geheißen.

Ioan Sauca, le 14 décembre au siège du Secrétariat général du Conseil des Églises du Moyen-Orient à Beyrouth. A “Religious Consultation on Social Cohesion in Iraq,” held 13-15 in Beirut, released a final communiqué, the fruit of wide interreligious participation that included religious and ethnic leaders of all Iraqi components working together for peace in Iraq and the Middle East.

Una consulta interreligiosa celebrada del 12 al 16 de diciembre en Beirut (Líbano) brindó la oportunidad a participantes de diversas tradiciones de compartir sus visiones para la cohesión social e interreligiosa en Iraq, a partir del contexto actual y vislumbrando el camino a seguir.

Une consultation interreligieuse organisée du 12 au 16 décembre à Beyrouth, au Liban, a constitué l’occasion pour les participants issus de différentes traditions de partager leur vision d’une cohésion sociale et religieuse en Irak, en évaluant le contexte actuel et en imaginant la voie à suivre.

Eine interreligiöse Konsultation vom 12. bis 16. Dezember in Beirut, Libanon, bot den Teilnehmenden aus verschiedenen Traditionen die Gelegenheit, sich über ihre Visionen für einen sozialen und religiösen Zusammenhalt im Irak auszutauschen, den gegenwärtigen Kontext einzuschätzen und den Weg in die Zukunft aufzuzeichnen.

An interfaith consultation held 12-16 December in Beirut, Lebanon, offered the chance for participants from different traditions to share their vision for social and religious cohesion in Iraq, assessing the current context and envisioning the way forward.

In a 21 September letter, World Council of Churches interim general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca congratulated Dr Michel Abs on being elected as the next secretary general of the Middle East Council of Churches.

The fatal blast in Beirut last month became yet another blow to an already plagued country. In recent months, a financial crisis with a free-falling currency and rising unemployment has further undermined the Lebanese economy. Add to that one million Syrian refugees and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the contours of a fragile nation facing monumental challenges emerge.
