In the wake of recent crisis with the refugees in Europe, it is “absolutely and critically necessary that all European states take their proper responsibility in terms of reception and support for people seeking refuge, safety and a better future for themselves and their families. The WCC has congratulated Urmas Viilma on becoming the new archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Archbishop Viilma, a member of the WCC Central Committee, was consecrated in his new position in a ceremony held in Tallinn, Estonia on 2 February.

Climate change is causing massive violations of human rights. This point was made at a side event on “human rights and climate change” during the 22nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

In La Paz, an ecumenical delegation delivered to Bolivian government officials a statement on ethical principles for a new global economic system. The statement was received by Bolivian minister of the presidency Juan Ramon Quintana at the government palace on 9 January.
