Promotion de la dignité humaine par l’art

La quatrième Plénière thématique de la 11Assemblée du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), qui s’est tenue le 6 septembre, avait pour thème «Affirmer la justice et la dignité humaine.» La présentation comprenait un spectacle de danse en fauteuil roulant exécuté par Fadi El Halabi, qui est en fauteuil roulant, et Mme Karen Abi Nader, une artiste internationale. Au cours de la danse libre, M. Halabi a tourné sans effort autour de son fauteuil roulant et, grâce à de lents mouvements coordonnés avec sa partenaire, a brandi les mains en l’air, symbolisant la joie qui ne peut être ressentie que lorsque toutes les pratiques d’exclusion et de déresponsabilisation en cours dans l’Église et la société sont combattues.

Promoting human dignity through art

“Affirming justice and human dignity”  was the theme of the fourth thematic plenary of the World Council of Churches(WCC) 11th assembly on 6 September. The presentation featured a wheelchair dance performance by Fadi El Halabi, a wheelchair user and Ms. Karen Abi Nader, an international artist. In the freestyle dance, Halabi effortlessly spinned around his wheelchair and,  with slow coordinated moves together with his dance partner, threw hands in the air symbolizing the joy that can only be felt when all exclusionary and disempowerment practices in church and society are addressed.

Christian communicators create fund to support lifesaving community media

The World Association for Christian Communication is creating a rapid response fund to help support grassroots community media outlets that provide accurate, trusted coronavirus-related information to vulnerable people who often cannot access mainstream media. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to contribute to the fund.

‘Not a page in a book’ – accompaniers hear Palestinians’ testimonies from Ma’alul village

Ma’alul, a Palestinian village destroyed in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, saw a visit by ecumenical accompaniers in mid-March. “I would have liked to invite you to a real home, not just as a refugee,” said Jad Saba Yusef Salem as he received the group of accompaniers to the village. Today, 95-year-old Salem is one of few remaining survivors from the 75 families who used to live in the village back in 1948.

WCC and local churches express deep concern about Jewish Nation-State Law

Heads of churches in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories have reacted with dismay and concern to the Israeli Knesset’s adoption on 19 July 2018 of a new Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People, which specifies that “The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.”
