Während eines Treffens mit Botschafter Andranik Hovhannisyan, ständigem Vertreter der Republik Armenien bei der UN-Mission, sprach Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) am 28. August seine Solidarität mit jenen aus, die sich um eine Aufhebung der Blockade von Bergkarabach durch die Wiedereröffnung des Latschin-Korridors bemühen.

WCC, Conference of European Churches denounce blockade of ethnic Armenian region

The World Council of Churches and the Conference of European Churches, in a joint letter sent 19 December to the European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, denounced the blockade by Azerbaijan of the ethnic Armenian region of Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh, as a violation of the tripartite agreement that ended the six-week war of 2020, of international humanitarian and human rights law, and of the most fundamental moral principles.”

In a letter to H.E. Zbigniew Rau, OSCE chairman-in-office, and minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca and Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen, general secretary of the Conference of European Churches, jointly appeal for urgent action by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to promote a just and sustainable peace in the Caucasus, following renewed violence in the region in which more than 100 lives have already been lost.

WCC urges United States government to recognize Armenian Genocide

“Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a matter of fundamental principle, an essential step towards healing, reconciliation and reparation, and – most importantly – a vital measure for the prevention of genocide today and in the future,” wrote Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, acting general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in a letter to United States President Joe Biden on 21 April.

As the years change over the World Council of Churches interim general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca on 31 December condemned the vicious Yemen attack hitting civilians. Sauca also expressed solidarity and prayers with churches and responders who continue to help hundreds of injured and traumatized people of the earthquake in Croatia and Norway landslide.

Der Interims-Generalsekretär des ÖRK (Ökumenischer Rat der Kirchen), Pastor Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca, zeigt sich tief besorgt über die erneute und extrem gefährliche Eskalation des Konfliktes in der umstrittenen Region Berg-Karabach seit dem 27. September, Berichten zufolge ausgelöst durch einen Angriff aserbaidschanischer Truppen. Die Folge sind Dutzende von Toten, darunter Zivilpersonen. Es besteht die Gefahr eines sich weiter ausbreitenden bewaffneten Konflikts in der Region.
