Bilateral dialogues are official talks between two Christian churches or families of churches (often known as Christian World Communions, CWCs). They aim at overcoming inherited divergences often related to doctrine and church order, so that the two partners in dialogue may move to declaring that they are in fellowship. The proliferation of bilateral dialogues as from the 1960s has led to the creation of the Forum on Bilateral Dialogues. The Forum provides space and time for CWCs engaged in bilateral dialogues to exchange information, consult together on emerging issues and trends and reflect on the coherence and integrity of the dialogues. The ninth such forum was held in Breklum, Germany, 10-15 March 2008.

Vierundzwanzig Personen kamen im Westminster College in Cambridge zur ersten einer Reihe von Konsultationen zusammen, die zu dem Thema „Tradition und Traditionen“ veranstaltet werden. Ziel dieser Tagung war es, aufbauend auf der vom ÖRK in den 1960er Jahren begonnenen Arbeit und mit speziellem Augenmerk auf den Kirchenlehrern und Glaubenszeugen der Alten Kirche die Möglichkeit zu untersuchen, einige besondere Quellen der Autorität zu entdecken, wiederzuentdecken oder ganz neu zu rezipieren, die uns auf unserem gemeinsamen Weg zur Einheit der Kirche voranbringen könnten.

Twenty four participants gathered at Westminster College in Cambridge to engage in the first of a series of consultations under the title of Tradition and traditions. The aim of the meeting was to build on the work begun by the WCC in the 1960s and, by paying particular attention to the teachers and witnesses of the early church, to explore further the possibility of discovering, re-discovering or re-receiving some particular sources of authority which might help us together on the way to the unity of the church.

A la primera de una serie de consultas bajo el título “Tradición y tradiciones”, celebrada en el Westminster College de Cambridge, asistieron 24 participantes. El objetivo de la reunión era continuar los trabajos comenzados por el CMI en los años de 1960, y prestar particular atención a la cuestión de los maestros y los testigos de la Iglesia primitiva, a fin de examinar más a fondo la posibilidad de descubrir, redescubrir o volver a recibir algunas fuentes particulares de autoridad que puedan ayudarnos en nuestro camino juntos hacia la unidad de la Iglesia.

Vingt-quatre personnes se sont réunies au Westminster College, à Cambridge, pour participer au premier d’une série de colloques consacrés au thème : « La Tradition et les traditions ». Cette réunion avait pour but de reprendre et prolonger les travaux entamés par le COE dans les années 1960 et, en s'intéressant tout particulièrement aux docteurs et témoins de l'Église primitive, d'étudier plus avant la possibilité de découvrir, de redécouvrir ou de re-recevoir certaines sources particulières d'autorité qui pourraient nous aider à avancer ensemble sur le chemin de l'unité de l'Église.

En este folleto figuran el esquema general de un servicio ecuménico, una reseña de la situación ecuménica en la región de donde proviene la documentación original, así como ocho series de lecturas y meditaciones bíblicas cotidianas.

Los textos para la Semana de oración por la unidad de los cristianos 2009 provienen de la experiencia de las Iglesias en Corea. Frente a la división de su país, las Iglesias han buscado la inspiración en el profeta Ezequiel, quien también vivió en un país trágicamente dividido y que deseaba la unidad para su pueblo.

Le projet de textes a été préparé par l'Institut oecuménique et interreligieux de Graymoor, New York, la Commission Foi et Constitution du Conseil national des Eglises chrétiennes aux USA (NCCCUSA), le Secrétariat pour les affaires oecuméniques et interreligieuses de la Conférence des évêques catholiques des Etats-Unis (USCCB) et Centre interconfessionnel de New York.

Ces textes ont ensuite été adaptés et mis au point de manière définitive lors de la réunion du groupe préparatoire international nommé par la Commission Foi et Constitution du Conseil oecuménique des Eglises et le Conseil pontifical pour la promotion de l'unité des chrétiens.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2009 is rooted in the experience of the churches in Korea. In their context of national division the churches have turned for inspiration to the prophet Ezekiel, who also lived in a tragically divided nation and longed for the unity of his people.

Exploring responses in faith to institutionally and structurally embedded cruelty was the purpose of the theological consultation on cruelty that took place in Puidoux, Switzerland during December 5-8, 2006. Organized by the WCC and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), this gathering focused on cultures, traditions as well as social, economical and political structures that are themselves cruel, as well as creating an ethos that "enables" people to become cruel. Twelve case studies from different contexts and perspectives provided the basis for the debate. Some of these are about racism, casteism, patriarchy, xenophobia, terrorism and counter-terrorism, torture of prisoners, genocide, rape and sex trafficking, and occupation. Papers from this consultation will be published in 2008.
