World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay met with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, West Bank, on 19 February, urging an end to the “seemingly endless cycle of violence and suffering.”

Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, durante su visita a Tierra Santa que empieza el 16 de febrero.

Der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, wird im Rahmen eines Besuchs in Palästina und Israel ab dem 16. Februar mit verschiedenen ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen, religiösen Führungspersonen und lokalen christlichen Gruppen aus der Region und auch mit dem Präsidenten der Palästinensischen Autonomiebehörde, Mahmud Abbas und Israels Präsident Isaac Herzog zusammenkommen.

Les Églises membres, les responsables religieux et les groupes chrétiens locaux en Palestine et en Israël, de même que le président palestinien Mahmoud Abbas et le président israélien Isaac Herzog, rencontreront le secrétaire général du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), le pasteur Jerry Pillay, le 16 février lors de sa visite dans la région. 

Member churches, religious leaders and local Christian groups in Palestine and Israel—as well as Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli president Isaac Herzog—will meet with World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay as he visits the area beginning 16 February. 

On the 2024 International Day of Human Fraternity, observed 5 February, special events—including the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity—focused on bridging divides and promoting a culture of peace. 

Six ecumenical accompaniers have returned to Palestine and Israel, resuming in-person operations for the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. Ecumenical accompaniers, who were evacuated beginning of October 2023, had been continuing their support and accompaniment online. 

The World Council of Churches (WCC), in partnership with CAPNI and UFUQ, is reaffirming its ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable peace through justice and inclusive citizenship in Iraq. As a year of exceptional and increasing conflict draws to a close, and as we pray for peace for all in 2024, “that prospect seems nowhere more remote than for the suffering and traumatized people of Gaza,” said World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay. 

قال الأمين العام لمجلس الكنائس العالمي القس البروفيسور الدكتور "جيري بيلاي": "مع اقتراب نهاية هذا العام الذي شهد نزاع استثنائي ومتزايد، ومع صلاتنا من أجل أن يعم السلام للجميع في عام 2024، إلا أن هذا الأمل يبدو بعيد المنال للشعب المصدوم الذي يعاني الأمرين في غزة".

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay said the WCC is “deeply disturbed” by reports of continuous assaults on the Armenian community and other Palestinian residents of Jerusalem.
