Held in conjunction with the 66th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, a World Council of Churches’ (WCC) webinar explored how women are navigating the water, food, and climate change nexus. Panellists and participants shared women-led and gender-just responses to the climate crisis as well as the role of churches and faith-based organisations.

Die Stellenangebote beziehen sich auf den Programmdirektor bzw. die Programmdirektorin Einheit und Mission, den Programmdirektor bzw. die Programmdirektorin Öffentliches Zeugnis und Diakonie und den Direktor bzw. die Direktorin der ÖRK-Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung.

WCC posts job openings for leadership staff

Following the decision of the Executive Committee during its meeting of November 2021, the World Council of Churches (WCC) is posting the opening of three staff leadership positions. The openings include programme director for Unity and Mission, programme director for Public Witness and Diakonia, and director of the WCC Commission on Faith and Order.

Groundbreaking global conference opens gates to a Pan-Africanism for all and with all to finally defeat scourge of racism

Over 23-29 October, a Global Conference of Africa and Africans in the Diaspora (AAD) revisited the historical 1945 Manchester Pan-African Conference and critically reviewed progress made since then. Speakers and participants also worked to determine and develop effective global strategies to radically change the lot of Africans and people of African descent globally—and thereby defeat the scourge of racism in the world.

WCC expresses deep gratitude to Rev. Prof. Dr h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, for decades of service

In a video message, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee Dr Agnes Abuom bid goodbye and expressed deep appreciation to Rev. Prof. Dr h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, who is retiring as president of "Brot für die Welt" and "Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe" after leading the German charity for 20 years. Füllkrug-Weitzel is also a WCC Thursdays in Black ambassador.

In einer Videobotschaft verabschiedete sich die Vorsitzende des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Dr. Agnes Abuom, von Pastorin Prof. Dr. h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel und würdigte ihren Einsatz und ihr Engagement. Cornelia hat die Hilfswerke Brot für die Welt und Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe als Direktorin und Präsidentin 20 Jahre geleitet und geht jetzt in den Ruhestand. Füllkrug-Weitzel ist ebenfalls ÖRK-Botschafterin für Donnerstags in Schwarz.

Persönliche Ansprechpartner: ÖRK-Team begleitet die Menschen durch die COVID-19-Pandemie

Der ÖRK gibt seinen Mitgliedskirchen die Möglichkeit, inmitten der COVID-19-Pandemie Unterstützung von persönlichen Ansprechpartnern zu erhalten. Der ÖRK hat ein aus acht erfahrenen Personen bestehendes Team zusammengestellt, das Kirchen beratend zur Seite steht und sie dabei unterstützt, ihre Rolle während der Coronavirus-Pandemie zu finden, sich als Glaubensgemeinschaften auf die Situation einzustellen zu können und sich untereinander am besten zu unterstützen und zu kommunizieren.

Faces of help: WCC offers resource people to accompany during COVID-19 pandemic

The WCC is offering member churches some resources with a human face during the COVID-19 pandemic. A team of eight resource people has been made available to consult on how churches can discern their roles during the coronavirus pandemic, how they can adapt as faith communities, and how they can connect and share with each other.

“Economy of life” lifted up at special school in Indonesia

Participants at the annual Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics and Management are exploring how an Economy of Life is a key pillar of the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace. The school is running from 19-30 August in Bogor, Indonesia. “We hope the Governance, Economics and Management School will empower participants to act, lobby for change and even influence socio-economic policymaking,” said Prof. Dr Isabel Apawo Phiri, deputy general secretary of the World Council of Churches.

WCC seminar in Mozambique shows vital role of diakonia

The last of three capacity-building seminars on Human Resources and Church Leadership for Diakonia and Development took place in Maputo, Mozambique, 18-20 June. This most recent seminar was for Portuguese speakers in Africa, with participants coming mainly from Angola and Mozambique. The first two seminars - for French and English speakers respectively - were held in May in Cotonou, Bénin, and Nairobi, Kenya.
