Unity, justice and peace – three values held together in love – are the focus of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Staff Planning Days on 9-12 April. Led by WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, the gathering maps the WCC’s critical contributions in a world full of challenges.
The days focus on the ongoing Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, as well as the theme of the WCC 11th Assembly in 2021, "Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”
“The theme of the 11th Assembly will challenge us to focus on the core mission of the WCC”, reflected Tveit, stressing the importance of involving staff, constituencies and partners in the reflections on the theme for the next assembly.
“We should include all our reflections on church unity in the wider horizon of work for a sustainable, just and peaceful unity in the world," Tveit added. “We cannot leave the quest for unity on a side-track.”
The Staff Planning Days seek to promote organisational effectiveness and staff cohesion through a common spirit of working, walking and praying together. As collaboration increases between and across teams, the pursuit of a common Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace is at the heart of the work.
The WCC staff – which comes together each spring and autumn – will develop programme plans for the coming year to strengthen implementation of the WCC Strategic Plan, and initiate planning and budgeting for 2020, including an outline of activities and events.
Among topics discussed is also the Green Village, the new development concept for the property on which the Ecumenical Centre stands, as well as sharpening communication skills with a particular focus on the assembly theme and the 2020 regional focus on the Pilgrimage of Justice of Peace: the Pacific.
