Former director of the Faith and Order Commission (1966-79), Prof. Dr Lukas Vischer, at F&O's 75th anniversary celebration in Lausanne in August 2002

"You have rendered an extraordinary service to the WCC and its member churches," WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia wrote to Prof. Dr Lukas Vischer, who celebrated his 80th birthday on 23 November.

The letter highlighted Vischer's work as staff and then director of the WCC's Commission on Faith and Order (1966-79), and his subsequent engagement in work on climate change and the concern for creation.

His "deep-felt gratitude and appreciation", Kobia said, extends also to Vischer's wife, Barbara Vischer, for "her support to you and her own engagement for environmental concerns".
