In this time of sadness and loss, I write to offer my condolences on the passing of Lois Dauway, an extraordinary ecumenist and gift to the World Council of Churches.

Her service on WCC governing bodies and particularly as moderator of the programme guidelines committee brought keen theological perspective and vast experience. Her faith and sense of dedication reflected a deep commitment and calling to service in the life of the church, not only within her own denomination, but to the global fellowship. Her focus on issues of justice has been, and will continue to be, an inspiration to the council.

Lois was a blessing to United Methodist Church and I know your church mourns deeply this loss. Please convey my personal condolences to her family and assure them of the thoughts and prayers of the fellowship and particularly the Executive Committee who meet at this time.

Yours in our Common Lord,

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit
WCC general secretary
Dr Agnes Abuom
WCC Central Committee moderator
