Statement of the World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay on the recent attacks in North Darfur, Sudan.

Your All-Holiness, 

It is with profound joy that I extend to Your All-Holiness, on behalf of the World Council of Churches, our warmest congratulations upon the wonderful news that Your All-Holiness has been chosen to receive the 2025 Templeton Prize.

We are delighted to share with you this Faith and Order Update which appears as we are looking towards the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order, and in the year that marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.

Professor Karol Hubert Karski, a distinguished evangelical theologian, lecturer, and ecumenical activist, passed away in Warsaw at the age of 84. 

 “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”  (Rev.1:5-6). “ I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol” (Psalms 86:12-13).

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended condolences to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, upon the passing of His Eminence Metropolitan Pakhomious, Metropolitan of Beheira, Matrouh, and the Five Western Cities, and Abbot of St. Macarius of Alexandria Monastery in Mount Al-Qalali.
