WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia wrote on 31 January to H.E. Evo Morales, congratulating him on his election as president of Bolivia.

"Your presidency reflects the spiritual values of the indigenous peoples of Los Andes, as expressed in Tihuanaco, and brings hope not only to Bolivians, but to millions of indigenous people as well as to all those who share the values expressed in your eloquent inauguration speech, namely to "change history, put an end to the oppression, injustice and discrimination of the past 500 years …without hate or resentment," Kobia wrote.
