About 30 representatives of World Council of Churches (WCC) member churches and partner agencies will meet 11-12 September in Geneva to determine how to respond most effectively to the policies of the international finance institutions (IFIs).

A major exhibition by the Ghanaian painter and sculptor Kofi Setordji is on display in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, headquarters of the World Council of Churches.

A two-day seminar organized jointly by the World Council of Churches (WCC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank will deal with the topic of their respective concepts of development and evolving institutional mandates. The seminar will also address issues such as wealth creation, social justice and the privatization of public goods, with special emphasis on the subject of drinking water.

"Thanks to the World Social Forum, we're better prepared for the meeting we'll be having this year with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank," says Rogate Mshana, who heads the World Council of Churches' (WCC) programme on economic justice.Â

For the World Council of Churches (WCC) delegation taking part in the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil, 23-28 January, the emphasis will be on a spirituality directed towards resistance.
