Le 20 janvier dernier, le secrétaire général par intérim du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), le père Ioan Sauca, a évoqué ses réflexions dans le cadre d’une discussion organisée par l’Institut d’études œcuméniques de l’Université Pontificale Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin de Rome, autour du thème « La pandémie, le Conseil œcuménique des Églises, et la santé mondiale ».

Conversations at the World Council of Churches (WCC) exhibition booth at the Kirchentag showed there is a growing interest in ecumenical movement among German churches. The topics of a particularly high interest were the Thursdays in Black campaign and studies at the Ecumenical institute in Bossey.

Une cérémonie a été organisée le 11 juin à l’Institut œcuménique du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), installé au Château de Bossey, pour remettre leur diplôme à huit élèves de maîtrise.

Vingt-neuf étudiant-e-s de l’Institut œcuménique de Bossey du COE se sont rendu-e-s à Rome pour leur visite d’études annuelle au Vatican et pour participer au lancement de la Semaine de prière pour l’unité des chrétiens du 18 au 25 janvier.

Each year students from all over the world arrive at Bossey near Geneva for a three-month language training course to pave their way for ecumenical studies that follow on straight after. “The title captures the goal of the course,” says Father Lawrence Iwuamadi, the Nigerian priest who studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and is academic dean of the Ecumenical Institute.

As young people from across the world gathered for a three-week Interreligious Summer School at the World Council of Churches (WCC ) Bossey Ecumenical Institute, they heard inspiring greetings about interreligious dialogue from people who encouraged them to contribute to issues of religious pluralism and intercultural acceptance in a society based on migration and globalization.

Amidst the reality of tensions often fueled by religions, a group of Christian, Muslim and Jewish youth has formed a multi-faith community. As part of an interfaith summer course sponsored by the WCC, this community wants to work for the protection of creation – a concern they say is common to all faith traditions.

Father Ioan Sauca of the Romanian Orthodox Church and Peter Prove, a Lutheran lawyer and international affairs expert from Australia, have been named to key staff positions in the WCC.
