Une délégation allemande composée de représentant-e-s de municipalités, d’éminentes organisations de la société civile et de responsables d’Églises s’est récemment rendue sur l’île grecque de Lesbos qui accueille déjà des dizaines de milliers de personnes migrantes ou déplacées. La délégation se trouvait sur place à l’annonce de l’ouverture de la frontière turque et lors de la première vague d’arrivées.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) continues to amplify the voice of the indigenous Papuans in Indonesia, who are oppressed by racism and discrimination.

Concerned about the escalating crisis of violence, racism and discrimination against indigenous Papuans in Indonesia, a side event co-sponsored by the WCC was convened during a fall session of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss patterns that are oppressing and displacing Papuans.

Markus Imhoof film receives human rights award

The movie Eldorado, in which filmmaker Markus Imhoof examines the European migrant crisis and contrasts it against his boyhood experience with a post-World War II Italian refugee, has received recognition from the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) and SIGNIS, a Roman Catholic lay ecclesial movement for professionals in the communication.

The film was awarded because it highlights universal values.

Religious leaders from South Sudan cherish those who host refugees

Commemorating the International Day of Peace on 21 September, the Ecumenical Network of South Sudan sent a message to the Uganda Joint Christian Council and to other organizations and communities who have hosted refugees.
“We would like to express our solidarity, knowing quite well your ever-commendable efforts towards your support for the people of South Sudan,” reads the statement. “You have been true ambassadors of the love of Christ.”

L’Église protestante en Allemagne et le maire de Palerme (Italie) Leoluca Orlando ont publié une déclaration commune appelant à un mécanisme européen de répartition des réfugiés arrivés en bateau.

L’Union européenne n’a actuellement aucun mécanisme de répartition à l’échelle européenne pour prendre en charge les réfugiés sauvés en Méditerranée. La déclaration appelle à une solution politique d’urgence pour cet été, et exhorte un groupe d’États membres de l’Union européenne à constituer une «coalition d’alliés» et à développer une politique soutenable en matière de migration.

‘Not a page in a book’ – accompaniers hear Palestinians’ testimonies from Ma’alul village

Ma’alul, a Palestinian village destroyed in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, saw a visit by ecumenical accompaniers in mid-March. “I would have liked to invite you to a real home, not just as a refugee,” said Jad Saba Yusef Salem as he received the group of accompaniers to the village. Today, 95-year-old Salem is one of few remaining survivors from the 75 families who used to live in the village back in 1948.
