The World Council of Churches comments to the zero draft of the “Pact for the Future,” the envisaged outcome of the UN Summit for the Future, submitted on 12 February 2024 (extended version).

Organized by the World Council of Churches in partnership with the Christian Conference of Asia, Church of Christ in Thailand, and ACT Alliance, the interreligious training programme is named “YATRA”—a common term for pilgrimage in many contexts and languages.

The theme for 2022 is “Youth Interreligious Engagement, Advocating Human Dignity.”

The gathering will be held from the 26-31 August 2022. Participants are expected to arrive on the 26th and to leave on 31 August.

This webinar on 8 October 2021 will provide an opportunity for critical analysis and feedback on the UN Food Systems Summit process and summit. (Pre-summit took place in July and the Summit on 23^rd September). 

 The World Council of Churches (WCC) is inviting young people to bring fresh perspectives on “The Future of Interreligious Dialogue” by participating in an essay competition to mark the 50th anniversary of the WCC’s Office of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation.

On 12 August, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will celebrate Ecumenical International Youth Day with the theme “Young People and Mental Health.” A worship celebration with expert speakers, music, prayer and Bible studies is being planned, and a “toolkit” is being released before the event to help WCC member churches provide a safe space for youth to strengthen their mental health.

In June 2020, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will hold its annual Ecumenical Continuing Formation on young people with a focus on Transformative Masculinity and Femininity in the Pacific region. This is a collaborative event of WCC’s programmes on Youth Engagement in the ecumenical movement, Mission from the Margins (MM), and the Just Community of Women and Men (JCWM).

WCC will hold its annual Ecumenical Continuing Formation (ECF) on young people with a
focus on Transformative Masculinity and Femininity in the Pacific region. The Pacific Council of Churches (PCC) has
identified the following concerns among young people in the region: climate justice, mental health, unemployment,
and gender-based violence. In-line with the WCC pilgrimage of justice and peace theme for its 2020 Pacific regional
focus of ‘Climate Justice and Nuclear Disarmament’, the ECF has a specific emphasis on the impacts of climate change
on mental health, in relation to the overall theme. This joint event plans to engage 30 young people from the Pacific
and around the world to go deeper on the topic of transformative masculinity and femininity in the Pacific.
The youth participants are expected to produce a Call to Action statement from the seminar, which will be
shared within and outside the WCC network.

Applications are now open for YATRA (Youth in Asia Training for Religious Amity), an interreligious training programme launched by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in 2014 following the 10th General Assembly of the WCC held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

Are we in a time when the message of the threats of climate change is on its way to sink into our shared consciousness? After being active in the climate debates in the ecumenical and interreligious discussions and advocacy work with not so much of a visible impact on policies and action I am wondering if we are getting closer to the point where we should have been 20 years ago. A point that says that humanity needs to choose another way if we are going to secure a decent future for coming generations and to save ecosystems and peoples opportunities to have a good and peaceful life together.
