Henri Tincq interviews Konrad Raiser

Following an invitation from the public information team of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Henri Tincq, who has been in charge of religious news at the prestigious French daily "Le Monde" since 1985, interviewed Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser. The interview took place in Geneva, on Wednesday, 29 October 2003, as Raiser approached the end of his term as general secretary of WCC. This interview can be freely reproduced. WCC film wins international festival prize

A film about Sierra Leone produced by the World Council of Churches (WCC) for Danish television won a prize as the best film in the inter-religious dialogue category at the International Festival of Cinema and Religion in Trento, Italy.

WCC sends words of support and encouragement to people of Bolivia

In a letter dated 29 October, World Council of Churches general secretary Konrad Raiser sent a message of support and encouragement to the Christian churches and people of Bolivia. The letter comes in response to the recent political unrest that led to the overthrow and replacement of President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada. Raiser urges the new government, specifically current President Carlos de Meza Gisbert, to listen to the voice of the people and underlines that “dialogue is imperative in order to reconstruct the country with the participation of the people.” He goes on to state his concern for the marginalized people of Bolivia, and to pray for the restoration of peace based on justice.

WCC congratulates Pope John Paul II

"Wishing to share in the great joy of the Roman Catholic Church as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of John Paul II's pontificate," the World Council of Churches (WCC) today sent a letter to the president of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, Cardinal Walter Kasper. Signed by WCC deputy general secretary Mr Georges Lemopoulos, the letter highlights that the pope's ministry has been "rich because of the many initiatives (...) for Christian unity, dialogue between religions, and the defence of social justice and human rights".
