On behalf of the World Council of Churches, I extend an invitation to you to join us in a global ecumenical prayer on Monday 25 January 2021 at 14:00 CET via oikoumene.org/live. 

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2021 was prepared by the Monastic Community of Grandchamp. The theme that was chosen, “Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit”, is based on John 15:1-17 and expresses Grandchamp Community’s vocation to prayer, reconciliation and unity in the church and the human family.

I write to you today out of urgent and earnest concern for our world and the advancing peril represented by climate change. Our faith in the creator, our love for creation, and our discipleship in the company of Jesus are all being put to the test by this crisis.

During the week of 18-25 January, we celebrate two important events: the Week of Action to Fight Inequality and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which has as its theme for 2019, “justice and only justice you shall pursue” (Deuteronomy 16, 18-20). As Christians, we are a diverse, worldwide family. Jesus calls us to be the light of the world, to preach the good news to those that have less. Where can our worldwide network serve as a light in a world of tremendous inequalities? Where can the Holy Spirit help us to come together as one and discover our potential for enacting change?

Justice and only justice you shall pursue

Reconciliation – the love of Christ compels us

O chamado a proclamar os altos feitos do Senhor, dirigidos a todos os batizados. Este chamado constitui o tema da Semana de oração para a unidade cristã de 2016. Foi inspirando-se em dois versículos da Primeira Carta de São Pedro que membros de diversas Igrejas da Letônia prepararam os textos propostos para esta semana.

The calling shared by all the baptized to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord forms the theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity for 2016. Inspired by two verses from the First Letter of St Peter, members of different churches in Latvia prepared the resources for the week.
