In his report to the Executive Committee, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit noted that we are living in a time when the purpose and the objectives of the WCC are highly relevant.

Based on these realities, there is a need for a new search for unity, he said. “Through the many dimensions of its work, the WCC contributes to the unity of the church, and the unity that the WCC is able to express, in turn, contributes to the unity of humankind.”

Hoy en día los cristianos del Caribe pertenecientes a distintas tradiciones ven el actuar de la diestra de Dios en el fin de la esclavitud. Esta es una experiencia unificadora de la acción salvífica de Dios que dona libertad. Por este motivo se consideró muy apropiada la elección del canto de Moisés y María (Ex 15, 1-21) como tema para la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos 2018.

Reconciliation – the love of Christ compels us

(cf. 2 Corinthians 5:14-20)

En el contexto del aniversario de la Reforma, el Consejo de las Iglesias de Alemania (ACK) asumió la tarea de elaborar los materiales para la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos de 2017. Enseguida se vio con claridad que los materiales para esta Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos tendrían que poner dos énfasis: por un lado, debería haber una celebración de la gracia y el amor de Dios, la «justificación de la humanidad a través de la sola gracia», reflejando la preocupación principal de las Iglesias marcadas por la Reforma de Martín Lutero. Por otro lado, también se debería reconocer el dolor por las profundas divisiones subsiguientes que afligieron a la Iglesia, hablar claramente de culpa y ofrecer una oportunidad para dar pasos hacia la reconciliación.
Finalmente, fue la Exhortación Apostólica del papa Francisco de 2013 Evangelii Gaudium («La alegría del Evangelio») la que aportó el tema de este año, al utilizar la cita: «El amor de Cristo nos apremia» (número 9). Con este texto de la Escritura (2 Co 5, 14), tomado en el contexto de todo el quinto capítulo de la segunda Carta a los Corintios, el comité alemán formuló el tema para la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos 2017.

O chamado a proclamar os altos feitos do Senhor, dirigidos a todos os batizados. Este chamado constitui o tema da Semana de oração para a unidade cristã de 2016. Foi inspirando-se em dois versículos da Primeira Carta de São Pedro que membros de diversas Igrejas da Letônia prepararam os textos propostos para esta semana.

The calling shared by all the baptized to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord forms the theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity for 2016. Inspired by two verses from the First Letter of St Peter, members of different churches in Latvia prepared the resources for the week.

This document offers a summary of the Ninth report from the Joint Working Group between the Roman Catholic Church and the WCC, which relates the focus and work of the group from 2007 through 2012. As the group approaches its fiftieth year, its recent foci include in-depth work on the notion of ecclesial reception of ecumenical work, the spiritual roots of ecumenism, church participation of youth, and emerging work on migration.

This report outlines the activities of the JWG during 2007-2012 and includes the two study documents and reflections on the role of youth. The JWG members offer these texts to the parent bodies, i.e. the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPCU) and the World Council of Churches (WCC), and hope that they will be received by churches and Christians around the world, inspiring them in their own ecumenical journey.

Como parte do reconhecimento do seu centenário, o Movimento de Estudantes Cristãos da Índia (SCMI – Student Christian Movement of Índia) foi convidado a preparar o material para a Semana de Oração pela Unidade dos Cristãos em 2013 e eles envolveram nessa tarefa a Federação da Universidade Católica de Toda a Índia e o Conselho Nacional de Igrejas na Índia. No processo de preparação, enquanto se refletia sobre o significado da Semana de Oração, ficou decidido que, num contexto de grande injustiça em relação aos dalits (párias) na Índia e na Igreja, a busca pela unidade visível não pode estar dissociada do desmantelamento do sistema de castas e do apelo às contribuições para a unidade dos mais pobres entre os pobres.
