A 27 September ceremony in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva will be an opportunity for the ecumenical community to celebrate the contributions of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Programme to Combat Racism (PCR), and to honour its first director, Baldwin Sjollema.

Baldwin Sjollema, first director of the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) Programme to Combat Racism (PCR), received the Oliver Tambo Order from South African president Thabo Mbeki on 16 June 2004 in Pretoria.

Baldwin Sjollema, qui fut le premier directeur du Programme de lutte contre le racisme (PLR) du Conseil œcuménique des Eglises (COE), s’est vu décerner le 16 juin 2004 à Pretoria l’Ordre Oliver Tambo, par le président de la République d’Afrique du Sud Thabo Mbeki.

"The power and promise of peace" is the compelling theme for activities to be carried out this year within the framework of the World Council of Churches' (WCC) Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV) 2004 focus on the USA. A Monday 12 January worship service will mark the opening of a year dedicated to strengthening and resourcing churches and movements working for peace in the USA.

Dans ses communications à la 59e session de la Commission des droits de l'homme des Nations Unies (CDHNU) qui s'est ouverte le 17 mars et poursuivra ses travaux jusqu'au 24 avril, le Conseil oecuménique des Eglises (COE) veut insister sur la montée de l'intolérance religieuse en Inde, en Indonésie et au Pakistan. Le COE entend également mettre en évidence le déni des droits socio-économiques et culturels de la population de Papouasie occidentale ainsi que les violations des droits de la personne commises sous l'occupation militaire israélienne de la Palestine.
