The PAWEEN seminar 2017 gathered high-profile scholars from leading theological institutions, church leaders, as well as executives of faith-based institutions and ecumenical bodies from and based in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, North America and Europe, representing the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and several historic Black Churches, mainline Protestant and Pentecostal church traditions.

This consultation on "Discrimination, Persecution, Martyrdom: Following Christ Together" comes therefore timely. It is very much needed that we come together as Christians from different confessional families and discern how we can work together in supporting those sisters and brothers that go through these challenging times. The suffering of so many makes all of us sad and vulnerable.

This document arises from the North American consultation on poverty, wealth and ecology sponsored by the World Council of Churches and held in Calgary, Alberta from 6 to 11 November 2011. This consultation that included representatives from Christian confessions in Canada and the United States of America along with representatives from other ecumenical organizations and local and global ecumenical partners took place at a time of deep global financial crisis and people’s resistance around the world. It is directed to the World Council of Churches, its member churches and partner organizations and all who share in the ideals and goals of this conference.

Thirty women gathered in Bethlehem on 13-18 December 2010 to celebrate the first anniversary of the «Kairos Palestine» document on the quest for peace and human rights in Palestine and Israel. The gathering also reflected theologically on the content of the text. Participants came from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Latin America and Australia.
