“It was prophetic for the WCC to focus on climate change already in 1990”

Closing worship in the evening of 12 March 1990: Participants from all continents and their hosts from the churches in the Republic of Korea are celebrating the results of the weeklong World Convocation on Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation in Seoul. They gather around a cross and a big globe representing planet Earth, the vulnerable home of humanity. They put their hands on the globe as a sign of reconciliation, healing and blessing, keeping it together in a fragile balance.

WCC participates in UN panel discussion on climate ethics

The WCC, along with the Geneva Interfaith Forum on Climate Change, Environment and Human Rights; Franciscans International; and Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University organised a public panel discussion on climate change and human rights from the perspective of ethics, spirituality and justice on 13 February at UN office in Geneva.

Pilgrims on the move towards COP21 and climate justice

As organizations worldwide intensify their work on issues of climate justice, and the clock is ticking for new climate commitments to take shape, members of the WCC Working Group on Climate Change have gathered for a four-day meeting to strategize for effective climate justice action and for strong participation of faith-based initiatives at COP21.
