Rev. Ingrid Noren Nilsson, from the Church of Sweden, is a Masters in Advanced Studies student at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey. She is currently completing a research fellowship with the World Council of Churches  (WCC) Commission on Faith and Order. She took time to reflect on what she has learned, what inspires her, and what she will take home.

Rev. Dr Curtiss Paul DeYoung, co-chief executive officer of the Minnesota Council of Churches, helped convene the team of authors for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity materials. Below, he reflects on the challenges and hopes the team brought to the table as they composed the text.

“Affirming justice and human dignity”  was the theme of the fourth thematic plenary of the World Council of Churches(WCC) 11th assembly on 6 September. The presentation featured a wheelchair dance performance by Fadi El Halabi, a wheelchair user and Ms. Karen Abi Nader, an international artist. In the freestyle dance, Halabi effortlessly spinned around his wheelchair and,  with slow coordinated moves together with his dance partner, threw hands in the air symbolizing the joy that can only be felt when all exclusionary and disempowerment practices in church and society are addressed.

Prof. Rev. Dr Simone Sinn began serving as academic dean at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute in August. Prior to that, Dr Sinn served as vice dean and professor of Ecumenical Theology. Below, Dr Sinn shares reflections on the new role, on hopes for students and on how the Bossey Ecumenical Institute will remain a bridge builder amid the world’s serious challenges today.
