To "expose and inspire" the US churches' witness to "the power and promise of peace" is the aim of events being organized in October in Atlanta, Georgia, by the US Conference for the World Council of Churches (WCC).

The Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) will organize a hearing in New York City on "International nonviolent presence in Palestine and Israel: Churches and civil society promoting a just peace". The panel of speakers will include three EAPPI volunteers, from the USA, South Africa and Sweden.

"God weeps over God's world, aching because of conflict in Darfur, in Beslan, in Harare, in Colombia, in Jerusalem, in Belfast," says Nobel Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu in his message for the International Day of Prayer for Peace, to be observed on 21 September. And he adds: "God - Emmanuel, God with us, with you - has no one but you to help God make this world hospitable to peace and justice."

Concerned about the growing plight of children in many parts of Asia, church leaders will gather in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 28-31 August and from 1-4 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to evolve a strategy for mobilising churches to take a more active role in overcoming violence against children in both local and national contexts in Asia.

The general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia will visit Germany from 28 June to 2 July. This is Kobia’s first official visit to Germany since taking office in January 2004.
