As a follow-up to the Alternative Globalization Addressing People and Earth (AGAPE) process, which concluded with the AGAPE Call presented at the WCC 9th Assembly in Porto Alegre in 2006, the WCC initiated a programme focused on eradicating poverty, challenging wealth accumulation and safeguarding ecological integrity based on the understanding that Poverty, Wealth and Ecology are integrally related. The AGAPE Call to Action is the result of a six-year process of consultations and regional studies.

Como parte do reconhecimento do seu centenário, o Movimento de Estudantes Cristãos da Índia (SCMI – Student Christian Movement of Índia) foi convidado a preparar o material para a Semana de Oração pela Unidade dos Cristãos em 2013 e eles envolveram nessa tarefa a Federação da Universidade Católica de Toda a Índia e o Conselho Nacional de Igrejas na Índia. No processo de preparação, enquanto se refletia sobre o significado da Semana de Oração, ficou decidido que, num contexto de grande injustiça em relação aos dalits (párias) na Índia e na Igreja, a busca pela unidade visível não pode estar dissociada do desmantelamento do sistema de castas e do apelo às contribuições para a unidade dos mais pobres entre os pobres.

Believing that the Earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord implies that all of creation lies at the heart of God. In these times of violent crisis of eco-systems we confess that all of creation is groaning for liberation and these cries are the loudest from forests and forest communities. As the participants of the international conference on Forests: Our Good Neighbour held at the CSI Synod Centre, Chennai from the 24th to the 26th of October 2011 affirm that eco-justice ministries forms an integral part of the mission of the church. We are called to witness in the context of deforestation, global warming, pollution, natural resource depletion; species extinctions and habitat destructions that are affecting the whole community of creation especially forest communities.

A consultation with the participation of thirty persons from most of the major traditions of the Christian church met at the Ecumenical Institute, Bossey, Switzerland, from the 12-15 October 2011 under the auspices of the World Council of Churches to explore the issues of Christian self-understanding in relation to their Hindu neighbours and to Hinduism as a religious tradition.
