El presente documento es el resultado de un proceso de estudios iniciado en respuesta a urgentes sugerencias realizadas durante la reunión de 2002 del Comité Central del CMI a los tres equipos del personal de Fe y Constitución, Relaciones y Diálogo Interreligiosos y Misión y Evangelización, así como a sus respectivas comisiones u órganos consultivos. La cuestión del enfoque teológico de la pluralidad religiosa ha figurado muchas veces en el orden del día del CMI, llegándose a cierto consenso en 1989 y 19901. En los últimos años, se ha considerado necesario un nuevo enfoque de esta difícil y controvertida cuestión.

The present document has been prepared by a multicultural and interdenominational group of missiologists, medical doctors and health professionals. It builds upon the tradition of the WCC's Christian Medical Commission (CMC) and its most fruitful contribution to an understanding of the healing ministry of the church. This document does not repeat what remains well formulated in earlier texts of the World Council of Churches, such as the document "Healing and Wholeness. The churches' Role in Health", adopted in 1990 by the Central Committee.
