A new global resource from The World Council of Churches and The Clewer Initiative, True Freedom is a six-week course for Lent. It draws on themes from the book of Galatians and encourages individuals and churches to respond to modern slavery in their communities.

True Freedom includes:

  • A short Bible study on the book of Galatians
  • A reflection written by Revd Dr Kenneth Mtata and Bishop Alastair Redfern
  • Questions for group discussion or personal reflection
  • Case studies from churches around the world
  • Information and statistics about modern slavery
  • Artwork to contemplate and discuss

True Freedom is available in English, German, French, Spanish, and Dutch

Blending local and global ecumenism in Asia

After being postponed twice because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 15th General Assembly of the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) finally got underway in late September and early October 2023 in Kottayam, India. Under the theme "God, renew us in your spirit and restore the creation,” CCA member churches across Asia gathered to stake out the direction forward and evaluate accomplishments and challenges since the last assembly in 2015 in Jakarta. 

Ecumenical Asia's 15th General Assembly looks to emerging challenges

This week, 500 participants from all over Asia gather in Kottayam, India, to evaluate the last eight years of ecumenical work and look to challenges ahead, such as the impact of youth migration. Under the theme "God, renew us in your spirit and restore the creation", the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) holds its 15th General assembly.

El CMI insta a sustituir el Acuerdo de Armisticio de la guerra de Corea por un tratado de paz

El Acuerdo de Armisticio de la guerra, de 70 años de antigüedad, debería ser sustituido por un tratado de paz, instó el Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) en una declaración pública. Coincidiendo con un nuevo aumento de las tensiones y los enfrentamientos en la península coreana, recordamos que este año se conmemora el 70º aniversario del Acuerdo de Armisticio de 1953, que estableció un alto el fuego, pero no el fin formal de la guerra de Corea,” declara el texto. “Oramos para que la paz y el diálogo pongan fin a este peligroso ciclo, y por la desnuclearización no solo de la península de Corea, sino de todo el mundo”.

Das 70-jährige Waffenstillstandsabkommen müsse durch ein Friedensabkommen ersetzt werden, drängt der Zentralausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) in einer öffentlichen Erklärung. „In einer Zeit der erneuten Eskalation der Spannungen und der Konfrontation auf der koreanischen Halbinsel erinnern wir daran, dass in diesem Jahr vor genau 70 Jahren das Waffenstillstandsabkommen von 1953 unterzeichnet wurde, das fortan zwar die Waffen im Koreakrieg schweigen ließ, diesen aber nicht formell beendete“, heißt es in der Erklärung. „Wir beten für Frieden und einen Dialog zur Beendigung dieser gefährlichen Spirale und für die Denuklearisierung nicht nur der koreanischen Halbinsel, sondern der ganzen Welt.“
