WCC general secretary honoured in Jerusalem

A high distinction has been bestowed on the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit. On Thursday 2 September, the Cross of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre was presented to Tveit by Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has congratulated the Rev. Dr Jerry Pillay on his election as president of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. In a 7 July 2010 letter, Tveit highlighted the "ecumenical commitment" of Pillay, who is also the general secretary of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in South Africa. The WCC general secretary expressed expectations for "ever deeper conversations and cooperation" with the new world church body and its member churches.

The news of the death of Fr. Emmanuel Lanne has been received with great sadness, said the World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit in a 25 June condolence letter. A monk at the Monastery of Chevetogne, Belgium, Fr Lanne died on 23 June at the age of 86. "We will remember his committed and competent contribution to the search for the visible unity of the Church through his involvement in the Faith and Order Commission". Tveit added.
