Starting preparations for a Global Ecumenical Theological Institute in the context of the 2018 World Mission Conference in Africa was a tangible result of a meeting of 20 ecumenical educators from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific. The WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has conveyed in a meeting with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos that “the churches believe in reconciliation, forgiveness and repentance, and are committed to contribute to the peace building process.”

“Climate changes can only be addressed in a fair and sustainable way if it is proper dynamic between the care for the environment and the need for more justice,” said the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit at an event in Colombia. “Neither in the North nor in the South can the challenges for the globe and the one humanity be seen primarily only from one of these perspectives,” he added.
