Today the world joins in mourning the passing of a towering figure in the struggle for freedom and for human dignity and rights.

How much is the mission of the church related to people with disabilities? These days we talk a lot about inclusive societies and churches. But, have we arrived there? Are our societies and churches taking seriously the problems and challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis? People with disabilities find themselves quite often at the margins of the societies and even of the churches.

Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser has been on an ecumenical journey for most of his adult life, which spans 80 years. It’s 70 years since the World Council of Churches was founded in Amsterdam on 23 August. A WCC member church in Kenya has consecrated its second woman bishop, Rev. Alice Muthoni Mutuma, on 31 January in Meru. Rev. Pauline Wanjiru Njiru, East Africa regional coordinator for the WCC Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiatives and Advocacy, attended the service and brought greetings from WCC.
