Le secrétaire général du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), le pasteur Jerry Pillay, se dit profondément préoccupé par les violences ethniques et communautaires persistantes qui ont éclaté la semaine dernière dans l’État du Manipur, au nord-est de l’Inde, impliquant la communauté Meitei, à majorité hindoue, et les communautés tribales de Naga et Kuki, à majorité chrétienne.

WCC condemns violence in India - and calls for justice

The death of a father and son in police custody last week in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has caused outrage and protest in the state. Family members and friends of the victims have accused the police of subjecting them to torture while they were in custody.

Momentum builds for ban on nuclear weapons

After a concerted examination of the evidence presented at the Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons and two earlier conferences, 44 of the states present called for a ban on nuclear weapons. The host government Austria added momentum with a specific, cooperative pledge to “fill the legal gap for the prohibition of nuclear weapons” and eliminate them.

WCC hosts Global Energy Parliament exploring “science of peace”

The WCC hosted the Global Energy Parliament at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. The event addressed the theme “The Science of Peace in Humans, Humans in Peace,” exploring a scientific understanding of peace featuring reflections on how lasting peace can be built by individuals and nations.

Indian churches reflect on the WCC assembly theme

While reflecting on the theme of the WCC upcoming assembly in Busan, Indian churches stressed the importance of celebrating life in fullness, vibrancy, dynamism and fervour irrespective of caste, creed, colour, class, gender or ethnicity.
