S’adressant à la Commission de Foi et constitution du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) à l’occasion de sa réunion historique en Indonésie, le pasteur Jerry Pillay, secrétaire général du COE, a exprimé sa gratitude pour les travaux de la Commission et partagé son espérance au sujet du cheminement œcuménique en 2025.

As the World Council of Churches Commission on Faith and Order convened in North Sulawesi, Indonesia from 1-8 February, the gathering was underscored with hope at the heart of a Christian message to the world. 

Speaking to the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Faith and Order during the commission’s historic meeting in Indonesia, WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed gratitude for the commission’s work, and hope for the ecumenical journey in 2025.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) continues to amplify the voice of the indigenous Papuans in Indonesia, who are oppressed by racism and discrimination.

Concerned about the escalating crisis of violence, racism and discrimination against indigenous Papuans in Indonesia, a side event co-sponsored by the WCC was convened during a fall session of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss patterns that are oppressing and displacing Papuans.

From 18-25 January, Christians will embark on the largest prayer gathering in the world, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Whether praying together, exchanging preachers or planning ecumenical services, they will bear witness to Jesus’s prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe.”

Du 18 au 25 janvier, les chrétiennes et les chrétiens entameront le plus grand rassemblement de prière au monde, la Semaine de prière pour l’unité des chrétiens. Que ce soit par des prières communes, l’échange de prédicateurs ou l’organisation de célébrations œcuméniques, ils rendront témoignage de la prière de Jésus à ses disciples: «que tous soient un afin que le monde croie».

As they gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia from September 2-8 to prepare resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2019, ecumenical partners reflected on the theme of “Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue.”

Rev. Dr Ester Pudjo Widiasih has recently been appointed as programme executive for spiritual life at the WCC. Widiasih, who comes from the Javanese Christian Churches in Indonesia, is experienced in the field of church music and worship.

As the members of the WCC Central Committee return to their home communities, they will continue some key questions related to their pilgrimage of justice and peace.
