Le mercredi 13 janvier 2016, au début d’une nouvelle année de travail, l’éminent théologien allemand Jürgen Moltmann a animé au Centre œcuménique de Genève une journée de présentations et de discussions, à l’invitation du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE). Il a également répondu à des commentaires et à des questions au sujet de son nouvel ouvrage The Living God and the Fullness of Life (Le Dieu vivant et la plénitude de la vie) (Publications du COE, 2016).

Today 35 bishops and church leaders from 20 countries gathered in Munich, Germany to discuss the refugee situation and the role of the churches in Europe.

In a recent statement, religious leaders called for an ambitious climate agreement, reminding all governments to commit to emission cuts and climate risk reduction. They promised to continue working for climate justice, including divestment from fossil energy.

In view of the current refugee crisis, European churches are being encouraged to deepen their efforts in receiving, supporting and protecting refugees who arrive in the region. This call was made in a letter issued jointly by the WCC, the Conference of European Churches and the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe.

Dans le contexte de l’actuelle crise des réfugiés, les Églises sont encouragées à intensifier leurs efforts afin de mieux recevoir, soutenir et protéger les réfugiés et réfugiées qui arrivent dans la région. Cet appel a été lancé dans une lettre publiée conjointement par le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), la Conférence des Églises européennes (KEK) et la Commission des Églises auprès des migrants en Europe (CEME).

In the wake of recent crisis with the refugees in Europe, it is “absolutely and critically necessary that all European states take their proper responsibility in terms of reception and support for people seeking refuge, safety and a better future for themselves and their families. This cannot be left only to the states where they enter first,” says the WCC general secretary.

Nearly one hundred representatives of the German member churches of the WCC met from 16 to 18 January at the Evangelical Academy of Loccum in order to share their experiences from the WCC 10th Assembly and to discuss how they would continue their way together on their pilgrimage of justice and peace.
