During a 23 August service in the Netherlands in the Nieuwe Kerk, a 15th-century church in Amsterdam, World Council of Churches leaders will celebrate the WCC’s 70th anniversary at the very spot in which the organization was founded.  A “Walk of Peace” through Amsterdam, and a symposium under the theme “Hospitality on a pilgrim's way to peace and justice”, at the Vrije Universiteit, will also be held on the same day.

Le 23 août prochain à Amsterdam, lors d'un service organisé dans la Nieuwe Kerk, une église du 15e siècle, les dirigeants du Conseil œcuménique des Églises célèbreront le 70e anniversaire de l'organisation, à l'endroit même où celle-ci a été fondée. Une «Marche pour la paix» à travers la capitale néerlandaise et un symposium sur le thème «L'hospitalité sur le chemin de la paix et de la justice» à l'Université Vrije d'Amsterdam auront également lieu le même jour.

The multi-cultural and multi-faith realities Christians live in today are confronting them, in their witness and praxis, with common challenges along with on-going differences among various Christian confessions. In a world of post-modern values and concepts, the voice of the churches remains often unheard and is hardly understood. In these contexts, the faithful members of the congregations across all confessions are getting aged and their number decreases. Other faith communities living in such contexts go through a similar experience.

"What can we, as people of faith, do to respond and to overcome the pressing challenges of our time, such as violence and conflict, and build together mutually accountable societies based on respect and cooperation?" This is the question up to 30 young adults from around the world are to explore during a study course at the World Council of Churches' Ecumenical Institute in Bossey.

«Que pouvons-nous faire, nous, gens de convictions, pour surmonter les enjeux les plus pressants de notre temps, comme la violence et les conflits, et édifier ensemble des sociétés mutuellement redevables, fondées sur le respect et la coopération?» C'est sur cette question qu'une trentaine de jeunes chrétiens, musulmans et juifs du monde entier se pencheront à l'occasion d'un séminaire d'été organisé à l'Institut œcuménique du Conseil œcuménique des Églises, à Bossey (Suisse).
