As the Lusitanian Catholic Apostolic Evangelical Church held its synod, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit sent greetings.

The WCC sent a congratulatory message to Rev. Dr Paul Goodliff, who was appointed new general secretary of Churches Together in England.

World Council of Churches (WCC) General Secretary, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has told participants at the Global Christian Forum’s Third (GCF) Global Gathering in Bogota, Colombia that the GCF is remarkable in building trust among participants and opening ways for new forms of cooperation.

A seminar following the WCC Conference on World Mission and Evangelism is being convened on 20 April in Helsinki, Finland. Participants and speakers include, among others, Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon, professor of Ecumenical Missiology at the Ecumenical Institute in Bossey, as well as delegates to the Arusha conference representing Lutheran and Orthodox churches.

Environmentally-conscious presiding bishop Dr Fredrick Shoo of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania says it was a special honour to host the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism in his country that is often called the “cradle of humanity”. “It has been a moment of reflection for the church as one body of disciples of Christ and on how we witness about Christ in the global context,” said Shoo, known for his tree-planting activities, in an interview.

Als Kenneth Ben in den sechziger und siebziger Jahren aufwuchs, wurde am Anfang und am Ende jedes Tages ein Gebet gesprochen. Sein Vater war Pastor und hatte eine Kanzel zu Hause. Seine Eltern richteten ihr gesamtes Leben an christlichen Werten aus. Ben lernte ebenfalls früh die Bedeutung einer großen Familie kennen, zu der auch die Großeltern und andere Verwandte gehörten.

When Kenneth Ben grew up in the sixties and seventies each day started and ended with a prayer. His father, who was a pastor, had a pulpit in the home and his parents built a lifestyle around Christian values. Ben also learned early on the value of an extended family, where grandparents and relatives are included.

Mit einem Aussendungsgottesdienst endete gestern die Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation in Tansania. In dem Gottesdienst reflektierten die Teilnehmenden über ihren Ruf zur Nachfolge und die Bedeutung eines solchen Aufrufs zu transformierender Mission in einer Welt voller Schmerz, Verwerfungen und Wirren.

The Conference on World Mission and Evangelism officially closed with a “sending service” during which participants reflected on their call to discipleship and the significance of such a call in transforming mission in a world of pain, dislocation and turmoil.

Die Teilnehmenden der Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation haben am letzten Tag der Konferenz einen „Aufruf zur Nachfolge“ veröffentlicht. Mehr als 1.000 Menschen hatten sich in Tansania versammelt. Sie alle engagieren sich in der Mission und Evangelisation und gehören verschiedenen christlichen Traditionen aus aller Welt an.

Participants from the World Council of Churches Conference on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) issued a “Call to Discipleship” on 13 March, the closing day of the conference. More than 1,000 people gathered in Tanzania for the CWME, and all are engaged in mission and evangelism, coming from different Christian traditions across the world.

„Wir können unser Kreuz auf uns nehmen, wenn wir daran festhalten, dass es ohne Leben keine Spiritualität gibt und dass Spiritualit gegenüber dem Chaos der Menschheit ungeduldiges Leben ist“, sagte Pastor Dr. Vuyani Vellem, einer der Referenten an einer Plenarsitzung zum Thema Theologie des Kreuzes auf der Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation (CWME).

“We can embrace the cross when we hold that there is no spirituality without life and spirituality is impatient life against the disorder of humanity,” said Rev. Dr Vuyani Vellem, one of the speakers at a plenary on the theology of the cross at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME).

Am Rande der Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation (CWME) gab es zahlreiche Ausstellungen von verschiedenen Gruppen und Einzelpersonen und es wurden allerhand farbenfrohe Gegenstände zum Verkauf angebote. Verschiedene Unternehmen boten Touren zu Touristenzielen und Sehenswürdigkeiten in Tansania feil, Banken waren auf der Suche nach neuen Kunden und Buchhandlungen zeigten ihr Angebot. Dieser Marktplatz, auch „Sokoni“ genannt, wurde zu einer Gelegenheit für religiöse und zivilgesellschaftliche Institutionen und Organisationen in den lokalen Gemeinwesen zu zeigen, was sie alles tun, um die Lebensbedingungen der Menschen in ihrem Umfeld zu verbessern.

The marketplace - also referred to as a “sokoni" - became an opportunity for faith and community-based institutions to share what they do to improve the lives of people around them.

Daily Bible studies at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism has been gathering participants from mainline Protestant, Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, and African-instituted churches. The Bible studies prepared for the for the conference are available at the WCC website.
