The World Council of Churches (WCC) is holding Norway in prayer and concern after the nation was struck by the most powerful storm in a generation.

A group of bikers from the Bike for Peace visited the World Council of Churches on 30 August as part of a commemoration in the Place de Nations. 

Norwegian churches added their voice to the chorus of concern for the people of the Amazon as the coronavirus increasingly spreads. In a letter to the Brazilian embassy, the Church of Norway and the Roman Catholic Church in Norway jointly expressed deep solidarity with the people of Brazil.

For many decades, the World Council of Churches (WCC) has worked to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula. From bringing people from both sides of the divided country together, to building an international ecumenical network to support them, the WCC has a history of formulating and promoting a vision for peace.

Auf seiner Rede in Bergen, Norwegen anlässlich einer internationalen Konferenz über Nachhaltigkeit und Klima in der Religion, veranstaltet von der Westnorwegischen Fachhochschule, der Kirche von Norwegen und dem Rat der Religions- und Weltanschauungsgemeinschaften in Norwegen, hat der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, Gedanken zu der Frage geäußert: „Was hat Liebe damit zu tun? Speaking in Bergen, Norway at an international conference on Sustainability and Climate in Re-ligion organized by the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, The Church of Norway and The Council for Religious and Life Stance Communities in Norway, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit offered reflections on “What’s love got to do with it? Climate justice and care for the earth.”

Bishop Ingeborg Midttømme, from the Church of Norway, serves at the diocese of Møre, in the northwestern part of the Scandinavian country. She is also a board member of Norwegian Church Aid. Over the past years, she has been an active participant in international events that focus on the global agenda on sustainable development, such as the United Nations annual climate conferences.

Pilgrims coming from Germany, Italy and Norway ended their journeys for climate justice on 7 December upon arrival at the St Stephen’s Church in Katowice, Poland, where the United Nations (UN) climate conference is underway. At a global conference on xenophobia in Rome, a panel of four religious leaders from, respectively, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islamic traditions, spoke candidly about how xenophobia can sometimes be woven deeply into the fabric of these traditions.

August in Amsterdam ist nur eine der zahlreichen Veranstaltungen, die der ÖRK, seine Mitgliedskirchen und Partner planen, um den Pilgerweg der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens weiterzugehen und gleichzeitig diese 70 Jahre ökumenischen Strebens zu ehren und von ihnen zu lernen. Dr. Abuom, die Vorsitzende des ÖRK-Zentralausschusses, sprach in einem Interview über die Entwicklung des ÖRK in den letzten 70 Jahren.

It’s 70 years since the World Council of Churches was founded in Amsterdam on 23 August. In addition to a commemoration service in Amsterdam on 23 August, the WCC, its member churches and partners are planning a variety of events to move forward on our ongoing Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, and at the same time honour and learn from these 70 years of ecumenical endeavour. Dr Abuom, from the Anglican Church of Kenya, is the moderator of the WCC Central Committee. She is the first woman and the first African in the position in WCC’s history. In an interview, she reflects on the evolution of the WCC in the past 70 years.
