Die brutale Tötung des 40-jährigen schwarzen João Alberto Silveira Freitas durch zwei weiße Sicherheitsleute vor einem Supermarkt im brasilianischen Porto Alegre am 19. November, am Vortag des nationalen Tages des schwarzen Bewusstseins, löste im ganzen Land eine Welle der Empörung aus. The brutal killing of Joao Alberto Silveira Freitas, 40, a black man, at the hands of two white security guards outside a supermarket in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on 19 November, the eve of National Black Consciousness Day, has sparked outrage across the country. World Council of Churches (WCC) member churches raised their voices to condemn the killing and to express deep concern regarding systemic racial injustice in Brazil.

Within the context of confinement to prevent the spread of COVID-19, multifaceted violence persists in Colombia, as well as violations of the rights of social leaders, Indigenous, Afro-Colombian and peasant populations.

“As Christians, we are called every day to generously practice hospitality”, said Bishop Samuel Aguilar, from the Methodist Church of Peru, as he lamented cases of xenophobia, discrimination and violence suffered by thousands of Venezuelans in different parts of Latin America.

After six intensive days, offering plenty of food for thought, the Asia Mission Conference (AMC) in Yangon, Myanmar, came to an end with a sending out and closing session last Monday. With around 600 participants from all over the world – double from what was originally expected – the need to discuss, learn about and elaborate around mission was clearly affirmed.

Mehr als 500 Delegierte aus aller Welt haben sich heute Morgen zur Eröffnung der Asia Mission Conference (AMC) in Rangun, Myanmar versammelt. Diese Konferenz ist die vierte ihrer Art seit der Gründung der Christian Conference of Asia (Asiatische Christliche Konferenz) im Jahre 1957 und stellt eine bedeutende Gelegenheit dar, gemeinsam mit Kirchen, aus dem Glauben handelnden Organisationen und Partnern über das Thema Mission in einem asiatischen Kontext zu sprechen.

More than 500 participants from all over the world gathered this morning for the opening of the Asia Mission Conference in Yangon, Myanmar. The conference, the fourth of its kind since the founding of the Christian Conference of Asia in 1957, marks an important opportunity to bring together churches, faith-based organizations and partners to reflect upon mission in an Asian context. The conference is organized by CCA and hosted by the the Myanmar Council of Churches and Myanmar Baptist Convention, both CCA members.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) on 14 September expressed its concern over the worsening situation of the Rohingya people in Myanmar.

Friday evening when the leaders of the G20 states will be meeting in Hamburg and discussing global economic, social, environmental and political issues, the churches in Germany are inviting people in Germany and all over the world to a common peace prayer.

Etwa 40 Teilnehmende, die weitgehend aus lateinamerikanischen Ländern stammten, kamen vom 30. April bis 4. Mai in Rosario (Argentinien) zu einer vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) geförderten Konsultation zum Thema „Gemeinsam für das Leben: Mission im 21. Jahrhundert“ zusammen.

Some 40 participants, coming mainly from Latin American countries, attended a consultation promoted by the WCC entitled “Together Towards Life: Mission in the 21st Century”, from 30 April – 4 May, in Rosario, Argentina.
