During the week of 18-25 January, we celebrate two important events: the Week of Action to Fight Inequality and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which has as its theme for 2019, “justice and only justice you shall pursue” (Deuteronomy 16, 18-20). As Christians, we are a diverse, worldwide family. Jesus calls us to be the light of the world, to preach the good news to those that have less. Where can our worldwide network serve as a light in a world of tremendous inequalities? Where can the Holy Spirit help us to come together as one and discover our potential for enacting change?

On Tuesday, 29 January 29 2019, the Fifth Annual Symposium on the Role of Religion and Faith-based Organizations in International Affairs will focus on financing for sustainable development and build on this vision of an economy of life as the flourishing of all life. Panel discussions will consider the broad issues of economic justice as addressed in the course of human rights-based development, governance and accountability in the global financial architecture, the implications for environmental sustainability, gender justice and financing social protection.

How can I be connected with God at work for inspiration and orientation? How can spirituality strengthen to live faith and values in daily professional decisions? How is spirituality in the modern cyber-world 4.0 of constant global connectivity possible? What kind of tools can be implemented in the company? After the first, successful such conference in January 2018 in Geneva, this conference brings again Associations of Christian entrepreneurs from all continents together to learn from each other, to connect to each other and to further cooperate in implementing the “Faith in Business Geneva Declaration” of 2018.

In order to strengthen the voice of the churches with regards to global economics, a group of 20 current and future leaders representing the churches will have the opportunity to attend the Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics and Management (GEM) for an Economy of Life in Jakarta, Indonesia from 19-30 August 2019.

The Ecumenical Water Network (EWN), in collaboration with the WCC Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance (EAA) and WCC’s Economic and Ecological Justice programme, is organising the second edition of the Eco-School for up to 25 young people from Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss the nexus between water, food and climate justice.

The Global Day of Prayer to End Famine hopes to unite ecumenical partners and faith communities all over the world as a prayerful and spiritual movement to: encourage prayer, reflection and action with information and suggestions; bring awareness regarding famine’s impact on the most vulnerable children and families and to help address its root causes; connect with church-related and other humanitarian organizations that are currently working to bring immediate relief and positive long-term change so children and families can live out God’s aspiration for a dignified, peaceful and violence-free future; help communities and congregations to uphold each other in prayer and support, by sharing experiences, challenge and solutions.

Jointly organized by the World Council of Churches, World Communion of Reformed Churches, Council for World Mission and Lutheran World Federation, the 3rd meeting of the Ecumenical Panel on a NIFEA will take place in New York from 21-22 April 2018.

On 23 February 2018, the World Council of Churches joins Pope Francis and the Roman Catholic Church in calling for a day of prayer, for peace in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Organized by the World Council of Churches and the Canadian Council of Churches on 2-4 November, in Toronto, Canada, "Redesigning the Tree of Life" is intended as a participatory learning conference, informed by expert presentations, with time to build relationships and shared learning that make future shared work possible.

The ecumenical strategic forum will articulate a common vision for the churches’ engagement for sustainable development, while strengthening relations and cooperation for ecumenical diakonia.

At its first Eco-School on Water, Food and Climate Justice, the WCC's Ecumenical Water Network (EWN) along with its Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance will bring together about 20 young people from the Africa region. Over a period of 10 days, in an ecumenical setting, participants will have the opportunity to study the local, regional, and international manifestations and causes of the water crisis and food security affected by climate change. They will examine the situation and challenges from a perspective of faith and ethics, and search together for possible ecumenical responses to these challenges.

As more people face famine today than any time in modern history, the WCC together with the All Africa Conference of Churches and a range of faith-based partners and networks invite a Global Day of Prayer to End Famine on 21 May 2017, in response to the hunger crisis.

In Southern Africa, around 28 million people are facing food insecurity due to drought conditions brought on by the strength of El Niño in 2015/2016. The World Council of Churches – Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance is holding a regional consultation, hosted by World Vision International, to plan coordinated faith-based action in support of sustainable agriculture, agro-ecology and other climate-resilient methods, particularly targeting the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) discussion on the response to El Niño.
