It has been two years since the United High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) launched its Global Action Plan to End Statelessness and the first ever Global Forum on Statelessness in The Hague, The Netherlands, where an ecumenical delegation shared their Recommendations. The purpose of the webinar is to mark this anniversary and assess the work achieved during the launch of this global campaign.

UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNWomen (as part of the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion and Development), the World Council of Churches - Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, & the Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research will co-host a symposium to launch three reports examining the intersections and areas of contention between health, human rights & lived theology during the United Nations General Assembly.

An interfaith prayer breakfast will be held during the United Nations General Assembly will renew commitment to a shared vision of ending AIDS by 2030. Organized by the World Council of Churches – Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance (WCC – EAA), in collaboration with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the UN Interagency Task Force on Religion and Development (IATF), this will be a unique opportunity to strengthen current collaboration and to forge new partnerships between faiths and other sectors.

The global ecumenical Indigenous Spirituality and Theology Consultation is an activity of the WCC Indigenous Peoples’ Programme and under the WCC Mission from the Margins Programmatic Area. It is hosted by Nungalinya Theological College which is an ecumenical theological education and learning center, situated in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The impact of the global refugee crisis in Europe and European churches’ responses: From 14 to 16 June church representatives from across Europe will gather in the Netherlands to address the challenges relating to refugee arrivals in Europe. Through prayer, discussion, and solidarity visits, participants in the three-day consultation will examine the churches’ response and collaborate on future action.

The interfaith service, held on the eve of the United Nations High Level Meeting on AIDS, is an opportunity to gather in prayer to remember those we know who have died of AIDS; to celebrate the progress made so far in the global response to AIDS; to reflect on our role as Faith Based Organizations and faith leaders in calling for and then implementing a strong Political Declaration on AIDS; and to commit ourselves to the Political Declaration.

The Pan-African Women’s Ecumenical Empowerment Network (PAWEEN) under the WCC programme on Ecumenical Theological Education is partnering with Bread for the World USA and Howard University in Washington D.C. for an international consultation on “Pan-African Women of Faith: Lifting our Voices and Votes to End Hunger and Poverty”

Hosted by the Sami Church Council (Church of Norway), the World Council of Churches will convene a conference on the theme “Reconciliation Processes in Indigenous Contexts” in Trondheim, Norway, on 20-21 June. The conference will centre on two thematic focuses, “Truth and Healing” and “Reconciliation and Transformation."

Without falling into the trap of ideological self-contained reminiscences, we shall be asking what has contributed to the idea of a "European identity", whether it be conceived as an existing identity or as one still coming into existence, in what terms it can be described, and what has given rise to the ideal of European unity that can then be expressed in political form.

In Southern Africa, around 28 million people are facing food insecurity due to drought conditions brought on by the strength of El Niño in 2015/2016. The World Council of Churches – Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance is holding a regional consultation, hosted by World Vision International, to plan coordinated faith-based action in support of sustainable agriculture, agro-ecology and other climate-resilient methods, particularly targeting the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) discussion on the response to El Niño.

The International AIDS Conference (18-22 July) provides extensive opportunities for sharing and networking across all levels of care and response to the epidemic. It draws tens of thousands of people every two years. The WCC-Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance is coordinating an Interfaith Pre-Conference to bring faith-based participants together to share good practices, networking, and discussion of the faith-based response to current challenges in responding to HIV.

The United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers and the World Council of Churches will promote a meeting to discuss the role of religious leaders in preventing incitement to violence that could lead to atrocity crimes.

Latin America is one of the most unequal regions in the world in terms of income and living conditions. At the same time, the region has strong religious traditions and churches. The seminar will address topics linked to the engagement of Latin American churches in social justice issues, drawing on the experiences of the participants themselves.

The multi-cultural and multi-faith realities Christians live in today are confronting them, in their witness and praxis, with common challenges along with on-going differences among various Christian confessions. In a world of post-modern values and concepts, the voice of the churches remains often unheard and is hardly understood. In these contexts, the faithful members of the congregations across all confessions are getting aged and their number decreases. Other faith communities living in such contexts go through a similar experience.

In order to strengthen the voice of the churches with regards to global economics, a group of 18 current and future leaders representing the churches will have the opportunity to attend the Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics and Management (GEM) for an Economy of Life in Mexico City, Mexico from 19-31 August 2018.

"What can we, as people of faith, do to respond and to overcome the pressing challenges of our time, such as violence and conflict, and build together mutually accountable societies based on respect and cooperation?" This is the question up to 30 young adults from around the world are to explore during a study course at the World Council of Churches' Ecumenical Institute in Bossey.
