Over one hundred faith-based organizations from Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist traditions gathered at the 15th International AIDS Conference in Bangkok to make their voices heard on issues related to HIV/AIDS.

"When we recognize that our lives are gracious gifts of God, it becomes our mission in this world to care for life and the dignity of all," said the World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia in a public lecture given during his visit to Fiji last week.

On his first trip to the Asia and Pacific regions since taking office, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia will visit member churches and ecumenical organizations in Hong Kong, Australia and Fiji from 5 to 15 July. Kobia will also spend time with refugees, asylum-seekers and indigenous communities in Australia, and focus on HIV/AIDS in the Pacific.

Two highlights at the next 17-20 February 2004 meeting of the World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will be an in-depth presentation of WCC work on HIV/AIDS, and the formal installation of the council's new general secretary, Rev.
