As a follow-up on the series of regional webinars on Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination of the World Council of Churches Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (August-December 2019), the WCC-CCIA is organising a new webinar focusing on "Church Apologies for Racist Past: Moving from Statements to Prophetic Action".

Date: Friday 3 April
Time: 3:30-5 pm CET

Over the last decades and until recently, several churches have made public apologies for their past involvement and contribution to slavery, colonialism and other forms of racial injustice.

But how do these apologies concretely translate? What do they actually mean today? How do such apologies heal the brokenness resulting from decades and centuries of racial injustice?

The focus of the webinar will be more on North America and the United Kingdom (i.e. transatlantic slave trade and its legacy). Other similar conversations pertaining to other parts of the world will be organised from WCC at a later stage this year.

Participants:

- Moderator: Rev. Kent Siladi, United Church of Christ

- Speakers:

· Rev. Michael Blair, United Church of Canada
· Rev Dr Michael N. Jagessar, Council for World Mission
· Archbishop Mark MacDonald, Anglican Church of Canada and WCC President for North America
· The Rev’d Margaret R. Rose, The Episcopal Church
· Rev. Dr Kathryn Lohre, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
