Die Oster-Initiative ist eine jährliche Aktion des Ökumenischen Begleitprogramms in Palästina und Israel (EAPPI) und hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Ostergeschichte zu den gegenwärtigen Lebensrealitäten in Palästina und Israel in Beziehung zu setzen und dabei die Herausforderungen eines Lebens zu beleuchten, das von Gewalt, Krieg und Besetzung geprägt ist. Gleichzeitig will diese Initiative aber auch Hoffnung geben und Gruppen und einzelne Personen vorstellen, die sich für einen gerechten Frieden einsetzen.

The Easter Initiative is an annual activity of the WCC-EAPPI, setting out to connect the stories of Easter with current realities in Palestine and Israel, to spotlight the challenges of a life marked by violence, war and occupation alongside nurturing hope and highlighting groups and individuals striving for a just peace.

Die Ausstellung „Bethlehem Reborn“ erzählt eine Geschichte, die über die politischen Geschehnisse und die Kunstgeschichte hinausgeht. Durch die Aufzeichnung der Restaurationsarbeiten in der Geburtskirche bringt sie eine längst fällige Anerkennung des besonderen universellen Wertes des palästinensischen Erbes für die Menschheit zum Ausdruck.

The exhibition “Bethlehem Reborn” tells a story that goes beyond the history of politics and art to reveal, through the restoration works of the Church of the Nativity, an overdue recognition of the outstanding universal value of Palestinian heritage to humanity.

With the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly approaching in less than four months, Orthodox Churches will convene in Cyprus for a pre-assembly to prepare themselves for the larger event in Karlsruhe, Germany, 31 August – 8 September.

An Easter initiative by the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (WCC-EAPPI) sets out to connect the sacredness of Jerusalem with what is sacred to us as human beings: home, worship, family, identity, human dignity and life, and solidarity.

This webinar takes place following the annual World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel and forms part of a range of efforts made by the WCC and its Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (WCC-EAPPI) to advocate for just peace in the region. It also follows a recent ‘East Jerusalem Initiative’, through which the WCC has accompanied Palestinian families facing eviction and displacement through global advocacy efforts.
