Bridge Builder Award Cemony 2021

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is receiving a Bridge Builder Award for building bridges of understanding between people, nations, and communities at national and international levels. The award is presented by the Jury of the 14th August Committee Norway together with The Oslo Center.

Les statistiques recueillies par l’ONU en 2017 indiquent que 87 000 femmes ont été tuées en raison de leur genre. Parmi ces victimes de meurtre, 58 % – 137 femmes chaque jour – ont été tuées par un membre de leur propre famille ou un partenaire intime. L’apparition de la COVID‑19 a exacerbé la violence, à tel point qu’en septembre 2020, 121 pays ont institué et adopté de nouvelles mesures pour apporter un soutien et/ou des soins aux femmes survivantes de violences dans le cadre de leurs plans de réponse à la COVID‑19.

Missing and Murdered: Addressing Femicide and Sexual and Gender-based Violence in our Global Context

Join us in two online meetings addressing the shadow pandemic of femicide and sexual and gender-based violence. Statistics gathered by the UN in 2017 indicated that 87,000 women were killed because of their gender. Of those murders, 58 percent – 137 women each day - were killed by a member of their own family or intimate partner. The onset of Covid-19 has exacerbated the violence, so much so, that by September 2020, 121 countries instituted and adopted new measures to provide support and/or care for women survivors of violence as part of their Covid-19 response plans.
