During a World Council of Churches morning prayer—focusing on the churches and people of Belarus, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine – a reflection by Prof. Dr Dmytro Tsolin focused on both the pain of the war in Ukraine as well as how we hang onto hope.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphany of Kyiv and All Ukraine visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 10 April at the request of the WCC general secretary, the Rev. Prof Dr Jerry Pillay, to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, the role of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine (OCU) in working toward peace, the continued involvement of the WCC in addressing the war, and the process for membership with the WCC.

On the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay lamented the destruction of so many lives and called for an immediate end to the conflict.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay denounced the continuing Russian campaign to terrorize the people of Ukraine, “exemplified by yesterday’s missile attacks on several Ukrainian cities which resulted in at least 30 deaths and more than 160 wounded,” he said.

The Christian Council of Nigeria extended condolences for those who lost loved ones amid violent attacks in remote villages in northern Nigeria. At least 140 were killed as assailants targeted 17 communities, burning down most houses in the area.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III in Abuja, Nigeria. As Sultan of Sokoto, he is considered the spiritual leader of Nigeria's 100 million Muslims.

In a press conference on 14 November in Abuja, Nigeria, the World Council of Churches (WCC) leadership of the central committee highlighted the WCC’s focus on some of the world’s most serious challenges, and how the WCC brings hope.

The All Africa Conference of Churches will convene its Twelfth General Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria, from 18-23 November under the theme “The Love of Christ Compels us…”

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee closed its meeting on 14 November after a weeklong gathering in Nigeria, hosted by member churches and joyously welcomed by local communities. 

Durante la reunión del Comité Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) en Abuja (Nigeria), del 8 al 14 de noviembre, el órgano rector publicó una declaración en la que reconocía su gran admiración por la “asombrosa diversidad de culturas, lenguas y religiones” de Nigeria y hacía un llamado al gobierno nigeriano a hacer un mayor esfuerzo para reparar las injusticias económicas y otros graves problemas que afectan a la nación.
